Its open season on Jedi, folks.

Anyone else find this mildly disturbing? Or will it keep the "LEETZOR TEH FETT" crowd occupied?

I truly hope she evades them It would just be plain awesome for he to be some sort of 'renagade' player, not knowing who she can trust. Mostly, I want to see her slice and dice some nublin arse and make the game a lot cooler in general

    Exactly.

How sweet would it be if the she-jedi had awesome pvp powers as compensation for oh..the entire community being out for her head.

I think this is just wrong, to be honest. Someone has spent 4 1/2 months playing this game to achieve this status and this is just a tad unfair. I can understand that they might rub a lot of people the wrong way since they're jedis, but placing a huge bounty is just a little OTT.

It's not just their characters at stake here, they've spent months of their own free time and money to get this far.

Personally I think this is just another reason why SWG sucks. "Play our game, discover things other peope havent, then be hunted to extinction!" I mean come on they arent even actually Jedis yet and these little padawan wannabes have insane bounties..

Awesome. I'd prefer being hunted over not hunted, honestly. Seems more real to the world. It will also reduce the "OMG I WANNA BE AJEDI!!!" crowd.

Considering how apparently tricky it is to pick up a force sensitive slot, we're not talking some skilless loony.

I think it'll be fun to see some dead bounty hunters, and besides it perks it up for ALL players as they begin brokering information on where to find Jedi.

Come on, who doesn't enjoy the thrill of knowing a bunch of people are out to PK you?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you die as a bounty hunter you'll respawn the same as when you died, but if you die as a jedi, that's it for becoming a jedi, you become a ghost or something.

Wow so totalling the cost of the game plus montly fees she payed somewhere in the realm of over $100 to get a shiny new saber, 15 minutes of fame, and now months of stress. Who wants to bet she Ebay's in a week?

I think it's pretty damn cool. It's nice to see something different for a change.

Yes, but the "one-death" dealie is just too fine of a line.

Of course they're not a skilless noob, but you can still get swarmed by idiots who just want to kill you because you're highlevel/skilled/etc. Happens in all PKing MMO's. I'd certainly **** as hell if my 4 and a half month investment was killed by some random idiot after I lagged out.

If death was permanent for everyone I'd say it was unbelievably awesome. As it is, its just really cool.

Both, this is a lot of incentive to buy the game, let me tell you. After sinking 100's of hours into it, and attaining the same ranks over and over again, and becoming ostracized from my friends, family (and "special friend" if you will), I MIGHT be able to become a Jedi. If the GMs like me. And I get lucky. And one of the other Jedi doesn't decide to go dark and betray me. And also assuming that I don't get PKed within 5 minutes.

Edit: I think I'll buy Knights of the Old Republic. What's that? Everyone's a Jedi? Sign me up.

I'm one of those who are kind of cynical towards the move to put a bounty on their heads. It's almost a punishment for attaining a very hard-earned status. Hopefully, the Jedi are powerful to counter these bounty hunters and opportunists.

It takes work to become a Jedi? I thought a percentage of people got it randomly when they created their character.

    Can someone clarify?

they just gotta tweak the game more so that:

    a) its a lot lot harder to make it un-fun for other people intentionally, and you have less incentive to do so [not through attitude changes, but by stuff like 'it affects them less' etc]
    b) your involvement in the game is less. i.e you dont warp your life around the game... but then again, with pay to play, im pretty god damned sure they want to have you play for longer and longer. but this lack of immediate 'rewards' will dissuade new players from making the jump and buying the game and paying to play.

[sorry for my lack of colloquial elegance, im kind of rushed and pooped today :| school yearlies next week, havent listed all year haha OOOH BOY]

She doesn't need to play. She probably enjoys the attention, and if she doesn't she can just stay logged off.

for anyone complaining about jedi death or putting a bounty on them, remember two things...

    1) the universe: In star wars the jedi were hunted and spent a lot of time running and being betrayed when they could find shelter with the rebels.

    2) choice: they didn't have to go a jedi, it's not forced on you so if you want to make a char and not risk it all just don't make a jedi. Simple =/

Uh dude like I said before. They arent even really Jedi yet. All they did was get one sensitive slot. They probably arent even considered padawans. And they claim that this is RP. Right.

    *Edit*

Plus I hardly believe that magically when someone in the star wars universe becomes force sensitive every bounty hunter in the galaxy can detect it and suddenly start hunting them.

Would that make them force-sensitive-sensitive? OMG PUT A BOUNTY ON THE JEDI-JEDI-DECTACTORZ!

Gem, besides, it kinda matters at what point in the Star Wars timeline this is. In the original 3 movies (And books and comics around that time) Y es Jedi's were considered outcasts, but in the time of Episode 1 and 2, and so on (And the books etc around the same time), the Jedi were revered members of society and generally respected. No?

AFAIK this is around the time of the original trilogy, with Jedi being hunted down vigourously.

Second, yes, the Bounty Hunters WOULD come back, I meant figuratively "dead" since all going well the Jedi will saber through them and laugh their heads off.

Do I find it thrilling? Hell yes. I've played enough MUDs to know that the risk of permadeath gets my blood pumping. Avoiding Arenas, keeping an eye on who's in town, trying to gain levels while watching your back for an assassination attempt.

There is no finer way to play, IMHO.

I think its fine for them to be hunted - they're smart players, they've a bit of wit, and now its time to apply that. It fits with the background of the game and the universe. And again, noone's forcing them to go Jedi, hehe. At least this way other people who get an FS slot will know that there are other Jedi about - perhaps some people will protect them, while others will sell them out at the first opportunity.

Personally I think it invigorates the game, probably more so on the RP style servers.

someone explain how this works to me. This person's character became jedi capable, or she gained a new character that starts out as jedi capable, and she doesn't lose her old character? If it's the second, she should just play her normal character until the fuss dies down, right? will the bounty go away?

Have you ever taken a test in a class with 40+ people? the way people finish things is bell shaped: one or two finish really fast, then a few more finish, then half the class finishes at once... this will work the same way. so far, there have been one or two jedi; soon there will be 5, and then 15, and then 50, then 150... so it's safe to say players won't be able to fund bounties on all of them.

The whole point is that being a jedi is the hardest thing you can do in the game. It's like getting to lvl 99 in Diablo 2 hardcore. Only the best of the best are supposed to be able to do it. Besides, it wouldn't make sense if she wasn't hunted, because Darth Vader and the Emperor are ruthlessly squashing any jedi they can find.
  • OttoDestructOttoDestruct Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7790Members
The point I was trying to make is that people dont just have big signs over their heads saying "JEDI IN TRAINING HERE PLEASE KILL ME". Luke and Obi Wan walked right through Mos Eisley, how many people do you think were there? Announcing that theres people with it then EVERYONE knowing is one of the frickin stupidest things I've ever heard.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Obi-Wan was one of like, 3 jedi still living. He was pretty good at hiding out by that time. And nobody except Obi-Wan knew Luke could be a jedi, and he sure wasn't telling.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
here's how it works disco; when you make an account you have a locked force sensitive slot. The key to unlocking it is completely random and you don't get told what it is but when it happens you can use that slot to make a character destined for jedi-ness... if they survive.
It's your choice whether to take the hardcore slot or not in the end, you don't have to make a force char if you don't want to =3
