No Renderfx=255 Ladders In Ns?

I notice that in most of the default maps, ladders are done in bascially the standard HL way, but without the clear parts between the rungs. It looks kinda weird.

I'm all in favor of doing custom brush-based ladders, but if you're going to stick to blocks, it's really easy to make it look like there are spaces between the rungs.

I think there are more important things to fix first, and if you wish for this to happen, do you have any brushes made to do this? If you made the stuff maybe the devs would implement it.

I'm not sure if the tranparency function is borked, or if it's just to save on entity counts (the latter is what I'm betting on). Adding some sort of rendermode like that would entail turning it into an entity, a luxury that mappers cannot afford.

I think it's because transparent ladders look pretty crappy. The new ns2.wad ladders look pretty sexy and have no transparency in them. When it comes down to it, we'd all love to be able to use brush based ladders, they do look a lot better, but with the way that HL handles transparency, solid ladders look better.

Note also that brush-based ladders save up entities, which are, as most of you know, the biggest hardware clog around.
