weird
The sounds coming from my computer suddenly began to sound muffled. If you don't know what I mean by this, imagine putting a thick blanket over your speakers and listening to it. It's very similar to being inside the onos, except the "muffle"-dness affects everything on my computer from applications, music, games, clicking icons, soundfx, etc. Can anyone please help?

I already checked the wiring connections, installed latest drivers, rebooted comp, adjusted volume settings.

Sound Blaster Audigy
Athlon 2100+
Altec Lansing 2pc satellite speakers w/ subwoofer
512 DDR RAM

I think that's all the info you need. Thanks.

try checking the volumes on the windows mixer, and the sound card mixer. try to set both to the 'default' setting if you can. mine does a similar thing when i use the different volume controls. they somehow conflict with each other and turn the wave balance way down.

this site usually has some good advice. i found a pack for your card.

this may be a long shot, but check your direct sound settings. you may have inadvertantly turned on an effect (muffled is one of them). this would change all of the sounds on your computer to sound like they were muffled.

    i hope that helps.

I've had 2 similar problems. The first was caused because my computer somehow got set on headphones in the sound properties rather than desktop speakers. The other was the EAX controlls got stuck on echo, and just had to reset it to normal.

A temporary fix was to crank up the reble to the max and lower bass to practically none. Thanks for making suggestions. I'll try these methods and see if they work.

    yesssssssss

they were stated but the normal fixes to this problem are (arrrrrr matey) to check the speaker settings and the effects settings
