<div class="IPBDescription">How to use it</div> I've been playing for a little bit, I bought my team a awesome victory.. We were pwning the aliens, then I was ejected from CC. I didn't siege the hives, cause I don't know how to use siege. I get one built like, right in front of the hive but it doesn't shoot. I seen games were siege's shot through walls? So can anybody give me any advice/tips?

    Sieges have a range which they shoot in, and yes, they can shoot through walls, but you have to be able to see what you're shooting at. Basically, use "Scanner Sweep" on the hive, and if the sieges are close enough, they will start firing.

    But sieges are supposed to have their own line of sight... i'm taking "right in front of the hive" literally here, so i don't know why they didn't fire then.

    I'm not sure about sieges having their own line of sight... the only times I've seen them fire is when the comm scans the targets for them or marines act as spotters... outside of that I've never seen a siege shoot at something unless the comm can see it =3

    I built a seige infront a hive and it took it down. Line of sight works, but there is also a minimum range

    Doesn't someone or something have to see the hive for a siege to shoot. You know, like a marine or a scan of the area?     I've noticed that siege cannons will sometimes inexplicably fail to activate. They would be fully built, and have an upgraded turret factory nearby, but they simply will not spin or fire.

    i dont think seige cannons have their own line of sight.
    if u build a tf next to a hive and then put up seige, they will shoot because the marines can see the hive.
    however if all your marines die the seige will stop shooting.

    As to shooting through walls, seiges have a maximum range unobstructed by walls, all they need is a spotter.
    Any building inside that range(as com it looks like a blue shaded region when u click on the seige) that is currently

    its also importan to know that obs+siege is somehow bugged..

    i dont know how it worx exactly, but if you build siege and obs later, the sieges wont shoot

    This ca nbe a bug sometimes especialy with cloaked structures, even though there are spotters the seiges fail to shoot until they are FULLY decloaked, so u need to hit it like 3 seconds in a row, deadly against oc walls. But yes it seems like minimum range here, or a bug that happens sometimes. Scan once and that will usually fix the prob, they will continue firing after that

    If it was fully built and literally right in front of the hive with a TF by it there is only one explanation if it wasnt firing at all. And that is it was bugged. Sieges do have line of sight (build a fuggin OC righty by one and find out), and they only need to see cloaked structures once and then the cloak is moot as they fire before the buildign fully cloaks again. Latley turrets when siege is upgraded havent been working at all and you have to build another TF (starting to happen more and more, unsure as to why and its on 2 diffrent servers) and so it is possible that if the TF was electrified or something after the sieges were built they wouldnt fire.

    What hive was this btw? 2 reasons for me asking. One is if the "right in front of the hive" was say on ns_hera in Archive and you built in the little station room on the 2nd level the sieges are too short to see over the edge and so you need to have a marine look at it so that the hive shows up on his minimap (the only 100% way to see something in line of sight) or to ping it.

    The other reason is that there are some locations on maps that for unexplained reasons (too many particles, textures, whatever I dont know map technicalities very well yet) anything built there doesnt always work. One such place is on ns_tanith. Build an arms lab in the back corner by the CC in Marien Start and you can NOT upgrade armor oh I'd say about 7 times out of 10. If its built a little bit closer to the exit closest to Sat Comm in Marine Start, BUT STILL CLOSE TO THE BOTTOM WALL you cant' upgrade weapons. Also with tanith sometimes the West Access RT can be electrifed, but it just takes the time and res without electrifing it!

    So chances are this was just a fluke and you shouldnt worry about it. If it happens again and in a diffrent spot or on a diffrent map post it again. It will frighten me then and make me do things . . . to try to help fix it.
