Deus Ex, Deus Ex, Deus Ex. Ooh, and when you're done getting all 3 endings, by that time Deus Ex 2 will probably be in stores.
It fits your request perfectly. [edit]Hmm, now that I see what you mean by "emo gaming," it may not fit perfectly. But it's an RPG, does have a dramatic storyline (your actions even determine whether people die or not, so you're causing the drama you want), and it's cheap these days. $20-$10 cheap in some stores.

Try some of the old skool Lucas Arts games, hours and hours and hours of top class quality gaming to be had with those.

Yes, (almost) any FF game, planescape is also a great suggestion... Xenogears for PS... um... Ultima 7 and 7.5 and underworld and underworld 2... but those are all rather old...

I know there's more; just gotta think of em

I'm ashamed to say I've never played FF7 . Does anyone have any freeware suggestions? I think I've illegally played all the good old SNES rpgs already

bad boy. =P System Shock 2 is either freeware or not freeware depending on who you ask. I think the company who put it together disbanded and now it's no longer published/no one collects royalties for it anymore... that game's dark and brooding and scary and very emo at parts, but there's no character development so no main plot characters die :> not that I can remember anyway.

except FFT regular would require either the FFT CD (or rom, don't know how it works) & PSX emulator or PSX & FFT CD

Let's not forget Grim Fandango as well.

(despite the fact that everyone's dead, you can die a second time )

Monkey island 1, 2, 3, 4 in that order. In one night.

GO!

Also, monkey island 5 is unconfirmed, but it's rumoured to be a liklihood.

OOOOH baby

and SAM & MAX FREELANCE POLICE... woooo!

<3 chrono trigger. Simply awesome game.

BTW, another SNES classic no one bothered to mention would be the Secret of Mana games (including Seiken Densetsu 3, whose english ROM translation I can't post here, but uhm, if you do get your hands on it *PLAY IT*). I never got through breath of fire, I find it hard to get through the beginning of a game w/o getting bored and quitting. I guess I'll try again -- might be worth it .

I got bored when I replayed it on Rom but on SNES...man, I had so much fun. About 2/3 of the way through Nina...man does she do some stuff you'd never expect.

No One Lives Forever can get emotional at times. Nice music, and characters you really grow attached too. And I guess The Sims, if you're into that stuff.

PLanetscapet: Torment - Good Story
Fallout 1 and 2
Morrowind if you have a lot time to kill.

If you want a good storyline, you must play Metal Gear Solid. That game ruined other games for me because no other game had a story that was half as great. If you really want to get into it, start with the very first ones for msx and nes. And Metal Gear Solid 2 is just as great. And better yet, mgs 3 is coming out soon! It also has some of the best video game music out there(if youre into contemporary classical music).

Also, FF7 and FFX were very good. FFX was the first FF game i played, and I loved it. The environments are beautiful, with good music, and a good storyline. It was so immersive. Hours would pass, and I wouldn't even notice. I felt kind of let down by ff7, but it was really good too.

Silent Hill is pretty cool too. Not as good as Metal Gear, but really cool still. The second one is really deep and symbolic. There are a lot of things that you have to analyze to get a better understanding. The first one is kind of straight forward, but still, really disturbing and cool. Haven't played the third yet, but I hear that it's more like the first one.

I too am a big fan of games with good music and story. From now on, I shall call them emo games.

Ok...Metal Gear (Solid's) do have really good stories.

Silent Hill's story...If any of you ever figure it out, PM/IM me. Any of the Silent Hills = CONFUSING AS HELL.

First, download ScummVM.
Then download Beneath a Steel Sky, which has recently been made freeware.
Play BaSS with ScummVM, and enjoy.

I've made it to the last floor on BASS, and I don't find it as great as people make it out to be... At least the puzzles are generally simple enough for even someone like me to figure out. But I did find the Tron version of DOS to be pretty cool though...

Anyone here played Loom? I hear that's supposed to be a good game, but I can't get it to work properly, although I've heard a bit of the voice acting in it, sounds pretty good. Premise sounds interesting as well... no inventory.

Emo gaming? Why not the Emogame!.

Deus Ex.

Also, although not quite the genre you're after, the Wing Commander series. Well, I can only speak from experience about WC2, but the WC series is extremely heavy on storyline (most of which is character development).

Clive Barker's Undying would be a good one, too. Maybe not the kind of emotion you were thinking.

I played it a LONG time ago, ive played most of the old Lucas Arts Adventure Games ( I Still have most of the games too). It was ok, not the best one, but I enjoyed it, the music puzzles give it a somewhat original appeal.

Of course, the main character sounds like a wuss, but I won't hold that against the game.

Fallout 1, Fallout2 and System shock 2.

Also if you've done those go to Deus Ex, NWN and ToEE

Yeah, go with Fallout1&2. You can't top post-apocalyptic murderous rampages for drama.
