Hey i been playing NS for bout a month and a half now and I suppose I have an ok comm strat WHEN THEY DONT HAVE THE MIDDLE HIVE. If my team listens to me (which alot of times they dont) I swing around to the oppisite hive claiming all the res and then when I get to th mid hive I lock it down immediately. IF my team listens to my orders I can usually end the game in about 10 minutes with a SG rush to the main hive. My problem comes when their main hive is the middle hive. Any good strats specifically meant for middle main hives?

when aliens have the middle hive, i use the mini-base technique...

send two small squads around the sides, to claim res, set up minibases along the way... for early in the game, just an elec RT and a phase is sufficiant...

have a good network of rts and phases... and soon branch it out to having a little more than a rt and a phase.
then break out the turrets, i have a LARGE additude towards turret spams... if i can defend in 7 turrets what you do in 14, one of us has a problem.
but yeah, break down the minibases outside of the middle hive, and give those a little extended attention, like an armory, or siege.

If the aliens are slowing progress, or forcing you "back" then TF hop ... or "carpet bomb" with those turrets.

These games tend to come down to resource control. Definately take one hive early on, but most of your efforts will revolve around holding as much res as you can while denying them to the aliens.

Your goal will be to build up enough res to siege that middle hive as soon as possible. You probably won't get it before the second hive goes up, but you want to do it before too many aliens evolve into the higher life forms. Once three or so fades start running around things get much more difficult.

Its entirely viable to simply electrify the marine start RT then relocate to the hive you've locked down. Since your marines are spawning in the hive you don't have to devote as much res to turrets and the like, and it makes it a harder to dislodge you from that position.

One of the nice things about this setup is that the aliens will typically be divided between the two other hives. Not having to deal with gorge support is a definate perk, and aliens will be reluctant to evolve in a hive that's under constant pressure. In addition, few gorges actually spend the time to build O chambers and the like in the original hive. If you think you can do it, a simple LMG rush on that middle hive works just as well.

There's the hammer and anvil approach. Split your forces, rush out of base in both directions, proceed to minibase near the easiest hive. Once its secure, send the bulk of your men to the OTHER hive. Aliens will get flushed from the other hive by your men, and move to the hive near your minibase.

One PG later and you can reinforce the minibase if its rushed, or continue from the non-minibased hive directly to the MIDDLE hive, and from there to the third hive (with whatever remains of your minibase still there).

Basically if aliens have middle hive, you can quickly **** the advantage by forcing them to expand to the hive of your choice, or by an early shotgun blitz pincer attack. Once the aliens claim a second hive, the game becomes a bit more standard, so the opportunity for strategic gain is lost. Act swiftly and early, and middle hive starts will more often than not be advantageous for you.
