Well they asked for the public's opinion. Some people are just honest about their opinions, which I think that is what the team would want. Although, nice way to throw that "summer release" in there.
So, what do you think?

Between myself and youguys, I don't like just calling them aliens. I've decided to call them Xenovolvers. Xeno for their similarity to the xenological aliens from (none other than) Aliens, who had partial exoskeletons. And volver because they evolve (anyone here who plays M:tG probably knows about the volvers, Anavolver, Durgavolver, etc.). Feel free to use the term on your own free will, but don't claim it as your own.

And once again the consensus is ... no consensus! But lots of good ideas. That’s the problem -- when (almost) everyone has a good idea, and everyone has a different idea, you’re left with nothin’.
Much like you shouldn't name a puppy before you've played with it, you shouldn't name a level 1 before your jaws have left ruddy smudges of marine all over a hallway. Be interested to see how these names hold up when the release comes, and you all get to blink through a wall as a Fade and appear cloaked right in the middle of the marine base, just waiting for the right moment to scare the h3ll outta them. Or you’re perched on a girder as a Lerk, watching a squad entering the room, and you leap into the air above them, spewing spikes.
Someone mentioned that the origins of the names should be put into text somewhere ... good idea for the manual!
umm im trying to think up something whitty to take the place of my dumb post... i agree with Flayra my thoughs will prolly change about the names when i play the game..
good thing is that community made names will always run dev-team made names over in the end
They are all pretty good... but I don't like Gorge that much, makes me think of George! Lv2 should be called Blunk or Pobber, lol... okay those sound pretty pathetic! -_-

I find it remarkable that less than half of the voters are happy with the names. Since an official forum usually has an exceptionally high percentage of vivid supporters of the developers (sometimes derogatorily referred to as "fanboys"), it is surprising to see so much skepticism about this particular decision.
I have to say that the names suddenly sounded alot better once Jeff put them into context, even the dreaded 'Fade' (/me Shudders).
For all those who plan to just ignore the new names and continue to use the old ones Im afraid you will soon be the only one doing that. Think of all the mods youve downloaded, now how many of them did you follow before they came out? I bet most of them have had discussions just like this but all you ever get to know are the official ones. Maybe nicknames developed but Im fairly sure they were different to the ones the hangers-on wanted before it came out.
The only thing Ive got to say is that Id prefer the names to all be 3 characters long because I cant seem to get voicecomms to work and typing isnt fun (though if you have %l for location in then I can attempt to make comm binds).
Well, one thing the Dev team is going to have to accept is that the Nicknames will be around for a LONG time, no avoiding that. ^^;;
Also, one thing they should look at is making the Alien's names a tad 'intimidating'. (Ever since the 'oh no' joke I made, I just can't help but chuckle imagining a marine screaming "Oh no! It's a... onos!")
But really, I could care less what the aliens are named, They're all targets/teamates t'me. ^^
