There are ~350 constellation members doing their best to balance public play as we speak. For a mere $20 dollars, less than half the price of any video game out there, not only can you help to further the development of one of the greatest games of all time, but you can playtest the new builds and influence the way the game is played. The public players are not being neglected, they are playtesting 2.1 right now.

I would think that the people who have characteristically disliked the veterans would actually be excited by this idea, and perhaps you do not fully understand what this means. With the constellation members, we now have a huge base of primarily public players helping to balance the public side of NS. The veterans will now be confined to balancing clan play. Both aspects of the game will be balanced as independently as they can be.

This is exactly the point, sk84zer0. In a clan scene on the verge of death, many new clans will form to take part in this promotion. The ones that do not scrimmage actively will be removed almost immediately. However, the clans that scrimmage regularly and make an effort to get involved will be rewarded with veteran status.

Ok, yay for more nublar clans to join CAL so us mid-level clans will have someone to beat on, woot. It will also make my scheduling much easier if I can get clans to play scrims against other then just er, dn, evil etc. So yeah works for me I guess. (half- excited voice)

Look buddy your not getting the point. THATS WHAT WE WANT THEM TO DO. THIS ENCOURAGES YOU TO MAKE A CLAN AND BE ACTIVE. And if their not active then they lose vet within a week and cannot get it back. If your the nubbiest clan out there no one cares as long as you play a scrim or two a night and try.

as hambone and flayra said, if you slap together a clan, and dont stay constantly active you will be instantly cut from the vetran team.

If you however make a new clan in one day, and everyone stays active in the game.... bingo, new ns clan is born.... not a bad thing either way.

plz try to think of the bigger picture.

a few "nubby" clans won't effect the balance of the testing. When the majority say "this is balanced," and the nubby clan(s) say it isn't, who is listened to?

a few?? there will be alot since almost every ns player knows about this, anyone can slap together a clan for cal. Therefore a whole lot of vets.

There is already too much hostility between pubs and vets. What do you think will happen when any nub/lamer/whatever can become a vet just by forming a clan?

Alright, this is idiotic. If you knew anything about HAM/HAMBONE, you would know that he will <b>not</b> let in any nubbie clans. You can't just wear a tag together and lose your CAL match once a week. He will need to see you actively scrimming, and have an IRC channel, at the very least. Moreso, each clan will have to continue scrimming, or run a definite risk of losing veteran status permanently. Really, just get over your purist selves and realize that this is for the betterment of NS, especially all of you #evo junkies that don't actually <b>play</b> NS.

I'm sure there will be some limitations to clans joining CAL. Hell, I think it's better then choosing the top 10 clans to broaden the playtesting spectrum. It will open up new mentalities and new strategies to the NS, and help Natural-Selection's overall balance.

There's my 2 cents.

EDIT: Also forgot the added bonus that it will give more incentive to the NS players to form clans, thus increasing the quality of clan play.

As far as Redford's post goes, I really do think he forgot about the constellation. How could you forget about this?

He's making himself enemies? Or he's opening up the beta testing scene?

Before we go on any further with posting, I'd love for the speculation to be stopped and we wait for official word from Flayra. Rest assured he's aware of concerns of the quality of playtesting that will arise from incorporating more clans.
Also rest assured that until we know exactly how this is going to work, it's pointless to make objections or to sing the praises of this concept.
Let Flay and HAMBONE run their thing. It's not going to hurt the playerbase at all unless you're absolutely appalled at having the game tested more than it's been tested at one time before.
Let's wait until official word is out before we waste our time debating this. I'm locking this to prevent any further flames and incorrect assumptions. I know at this moment that Flay and HAMBONE have both read over this and they have taken note of your concerns. <span style='color:red'>*Locked*</span>
Thank you for your time, and please await official word before making more speculations and furthering incorrect information.
