So could soemone tell me HOW to set up the entities. Reinstalling isnt a problem as long as I can get them to work. Kinda hard to hvae a map with no player starts, Hives, or CC's, OR starting RTs....

Is it that you don't know how to make entities, or that they aren't showing up in Hammer? I think CA's walkthrough should have them show up, so I'll explain how to make them.

There are two types of entities, point-based and brush-based. To make a point-based entity, use the "entity creation tool" in Hammer (it looks like a light bulb). You have to click where in one of the 2d views, and move the green box around using the views. Then pick the entity type from the list on the lower right. Once you're done choosing the entity type, press enter, and it is made.

For brush-based entities, first make a brush with the "block creation tool". Then select the brush, and either right-click on it in one of the 2d views and select "Tie to Entity", or click "toEntity" on the lower right of the screen. A small window will come up with the brush entity's properties. In this window you can choose what type of entity you want it to be from a list. You can also set the entity specific properties by choosing the property from the text window.

To get to the properties for point-based entities, just select the entity and press alt+enter, or right-click and click properties. You can also do this to change the properties of brush entities.

The entity types dont show up. On the right toolbar there are 2 pull down tabs. The top one has "(entities)" and the bottom has NOTHING. According to every walkthrough for mapping Ive seen using Valve's Hammer it should have stuff like "light" there.

Have you selected the NS FGD?

I have no idea. I set this up 3 weeks ago and double checked everything as I set it up. I havent had time until latley to start messing with it and make my map and when I tried to add light it was like that.

Okay I looked around in options under tools. For Game Data Files I have ns.fgd targeted.

    Now for something ponderous:

I had NS installed under CS. After not being able to use the Add Server Button and needing to reinstall NS after a certain catastrophe with my videocard, I installed NS under HL this time.

    Now, I should re-target the ns.fgd correct?

I should really be using "Edit" for all this, but I think I just fixed it by re-targeting ns.fgd.

Wow. Thanks. If this map turns out the way I hope it does it will be partially thanks to you.
