Make Half Life Look Nice An Go Fast!11
<div class="IPBDescription">help meee</div> ok, for starters, i have a very limited knowledge of my computers internal workings.
I recently gots me a new processor and graphics card and want to make Half life run well (fast and with nice graphics) but have no idea how to go about doing this.
anyway, i have an AMD 2400 and a Geforce 5200.
the best i can manage so far on my half life is Direct3d, but i get weird texture glitches and i cant escape to the menu without the game crashing upon re-entry.
are there any programmes i can get that will allow me to use the openGL mode, or the Direct3d properly?
I seem to remember way back on my old PC (which had a Voodoo2) I got some kinda 'driver?' or program that allowed me to start playing in openGL, but im really not sure...
apart from that, any general tips on increasing resolution/ frame rate would be appreciated as I intend to get NS on this system as soon as it gets here (god dam postal strikes[im a poor 56k man again])..
any and all help greatly appreciated.
thanks!

As for getting it running in OpenGL, what actually happens if you try to run opengl?
thing is, i seem to recall the same message on my old voodoo before i got those mini drivers or whatever they are..
Detailed instructions <a href='http://www.twistedmods.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=59' target='_blank'>here</a>.
It's for an older driver but you still do all the same things.
WRONG. I highly recommend nearly EVERYONE to keep v-sync on. V-sync limits your FPS to your monitor refresh rate. If you turn it off, you're not actually seeing a higher amount of frames as your monitor is still limited. In fact, it will cause some ugly visual anomalies. It's only good for seeing how high a FPS you can get. (benchmarking) If you want to increase it above 60fps, first increase your monitor refresh rate. If you have Windows NT/2000/XP and the Nvidia Detonator drivers, you'll need to download a program to fix a problem that locks your refresh rate to 60hz.
Here's one download location for that fix: <a href='http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/godownload.php?http://520010296761-0001.bei.t-online.de/prog/nvfixsfx.exe' target='_blank'>http://www.softpedia.com/public/scripts/go...og/nvfixsfx.exe</a>
Personally I find that Direct3D doesn't work with my card, but then I don't need it when i've got lovely opengl <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
*edit* Oh yeah, and what fps ARE you getting anyway? Use "cl_showfps 1" (without the quotes) in the console to find out. Note that it will be much higher in the readyroom and much lower in a marine base.*edit*
Anyway, disabling the vsync limiter will cause tearing. You'll see almost no performance increase, and when you whip your view around, half the screen will appear to 'stick' briefly.
