Many wildfires are spreading throughout Southern California, the largest recorded fires we've had in a long while. Although I am safe from the fires, as the closest are in Alpine, Scripts Ranch, and a few other areas, friends of mine have had to evacuate their homes to get out of the possible paths of the blazes. From my house, about half an hour or so drive to the nearest fire, I can see a wall of smoke and smell the smoke in the wind. I am glad that I am in a safe area, but I am fearful for my friends and their neighbors. All I can really do is hope that the blazes are controlled and extinguished soon.

Edit: Topic should be "Southern California Fires", I missed an 'n'. *Fixed.*

My dad had to go down there for work a week ago and just got home. He said it was unbarable...he could hardly work (he works outside the whole time) and he couldn't even breathe. The company sent him and all the other employeers home because I guess some were having asthma attacks. wusses...jk

how does one know their house is in the pathway of a fire? way out where i live we jsut get news reports that there is a big fire here and there, but how would i knwo exactly where if i lived there?

does the fire department phonecall these poor people?

I believe either firemen or police officers go to their houses and tell them it would be a good idea to evacuate, just in case.

Little update from my point of view: The wall of smoke has now turned into a cloud cover across the entire sky; Its pretty wild, all the light has turned orangish-tan because of the sunlight filtering through a different color.

I was living in San Diego County back in the late 90's when there was a huge bunch of brushfires. I don't know if it was worse than this one, but I think it was because the fires stretched from LA down into Mexico. It was pretty wild because there were 200 ft flames less than a mile from my house.

Heh, yesterday when my buddy Cj and I where taking our Pcs, monitors and other equipment to my car after my friend's LAN. I saw my car COVERED in ash. I was like holy shiat.

Once we got the stuff inside, a quick swipe of the wipers and a 3-5 second burst of speed took car of most of it lol. Now I have to wash my car >.<

I think that's just the smog.

Actually it is the smoke itself, the fire is huge as hell and the smoke is just pouring out of the areas across the sky. Although its night now, and its darker than usual because theres no moon or stars out. San Diego usually isn't a cloudy area, so this is a very different change of pace.

On a lighter note: I have no school tomorrow.

I've been watching the footage of the fire from the helicopters on the news, and its pretty wicked stuff. I've always had a certain respect for the power fire has, and the destruction it can cause. Call me crazy, but seeing these blazes leaving trails of smoldering brush and plantlife is awe-inspiring.

Hmm. It was much more intense on Saturday. I walked outside, and the entire sky was dark orange. A very strange color. When you look up like that, it looks like we've just been hit by a nuke.

    Fallout, anyone?

    I was obviously joking.

Ah, yes. Well, with me in my current state of awe and slight worry, I won't pick up on things like I usually do.

Other than the fire, my day has been pretty good, I have thoroughly enjoyed my extra hour that was returned from daylight savings time.

Woke up this morning at about nine, looked out the window to see the light everywhere adding an orange hue to it all. Pretty trippy stuff, I wonder how long it'll all keep going.

Even though the sky is not all dark, the ashes are everywhere. I can barely open my door without thousands pouring in. A lot of kids at school are coughing badly.

Things are not going well with the fires. So far, two friends have lost their houses to the fire, and a third friend's dad's house was consumed as well. Still hoping that another friend that I have not heard from for some time is safe.

Went out with some other friends tonite, lotta fifth-wheels and mobile homes in the parking lot of a local shopping center because they were evacuated from their homes.

All this while, there is nothing that I can do to help, and I feel like I should be doing something because all I'm really doing is sitting around safely in my house.
