DoD-related vis blockers
remember in the beach maps in DoD, how they have the transparent vegetation that blocks VIS. i've been looking for the tutorial, searching forums and getting null responses for irc so i've decided to ask here.
does anyone have a link to a tutorial for this? or at least is able to tell me the basic method. i can't figure it out and would like to use it in some manner.
thx

unless dod has changed i dont recall ransparent objects ever blocking vis. you can fake it with a a hint brush. again i dont think a trans aprent object blocks vis.
explaination of hints i dont know how good it is look

Wurmspawn, when you say the transparent vegetation blocks vis, that would mean you don't see anything - hall of mirrors or something. I'm pretty sure in these levels you see some sort of *sky* behind the vegetation. *hint hint*

(hint is for the fine tuning of visibility only)

Perhaps he means the trick of using a worldbrush textured with a texture which name starts with TRANS or @ as described in this tutorial.

Yes, ...Rolf (? ) you might be right. This tutorial says about textures starting with @ or TRANS:

QUOTE

It blocks VIS and is passable. ... You cannot in any way see through it. ... It will also not block light.

First I though: no see through? who would use that for any vegetation. But it is of course great to create secret passages (hidden in some solid looking vegetation) that also block vis unlike a func_illusionary.
    Is that what you meant?

btw. I found that when you compile a func_illusionary and rename it to func_wall afterwards you get brush that you can walk through, but at the same time climb at as a skulk. Bullets will not pass it and when you are inside of it and shoot it will crash the game (because you are somewhat inside the void). I don't know if this is a problem with the above technique. At least it is rather undocumented so... there might be a reason for that.

This should really be in the newbie mapping forum. Thats what the newbie mapping forum is for! Simple easy questions!

Hey, did YOU know about TRANS/@-textures??? This is brand new info for me ! Make this sticky! Ok, no sticky, but still... some people might have a 'theoretical' interest in this.
