i donno about every1 else.. but my intrest in ns is slowly decling, it was cool, it still is, but day after day, visit after visit of nothin? its all very depressing, and after a while u begin to doubt. before it was after a while u'd figure "hey times passed they gota be closer" and i suppose thats the truth, but things have just gotten slow, the ideas forum is slwoing down, nothing new there for a while, just a bunch of carried on topics, i stopped goin to all the other forums, art, offtopic, mapping, everything just seems to have slowed down.. i think ns has reached its peak of fans, until its released that is, and well i've actaulyl stopped visiting readyroom and ns.org for a couple days at a time now.. i donno well i just wanted to see if any1 else is noticing htis

NS is feature locked, there shouldn't be much of an active ideas forum now, and I never liked that place anyway since one of the things that so impressed me was the fact the devteam knew exactly what they wanted from the mod themselves.

Personally I'm not waiting for NS, I pop into OT forums now and then, and that's it, the only reason I saw this thread was because I was interested in the title from the main page. When ns is released I'll take a look and decide whether to bother DLing it or not, I'll probably give it a go then crawl back to where I came from, I'm not excited so I'm not going ot be disappointed and more likly to have my head blown apart in amazement.

Meh. Monse has other stuff to do besides post screenies. They're just ironing out the last bits now, guys. No activity here means lots of it behind the scenes.

My advice is this: Stop waiting for things to happen. Instead, enjoy what you have now. It will come, whether you refresh this page twice an hour or not. Find something to occupy your time now.

This is the point in a mods creation where everything halts, and there's that moment of silence...then the attack comes, or rather the release.
• TzarconTzarcon Join Date: 2002-02-28 Member: 259Members
yeah, that always happens, but I dont doubt most people's interest has dropped steadily, which also always happens, but things always kick-start again as soon as its released

I lost a lot of interest a long time ago...

I still am fanatical about the game, but my interest of it is largely on hibernation until I gain some access to it.

I remember waiting for HL to come out for 2 or 3 years. But HL was such an amazing success I don't regret a minute "wasted" waiting for it. I have a similar gut feeling about NS. So despite the pain of waiting, I am anticipating it more because of the wait. Hey, that's just me, and I have a feeling that many of you didn't have the same experience waiting for HL for as long as I did, so I may be standing alone here.

Well, I'm still as crazy about NS as ever and I have lost absolutely no interest in it. And my jealousy of the playtesters getts bigger by the day

ok, the pre-release info was not perfectly timed (else we wouldn't be in an info gap currently), but losing interest in something great just because it takes a while longer is silly. NS is not getting *worse* with time, it's getting *better*.

Patience is a virtue.

honestly guys, the amount of proccess this mod has gone through is increadible ...

simply stunning ..

When I first joined the PT's - it serioulsy looked and played like a different game.

But, maybe you guys should take a break. The less you think about it, the faster the time will go by.

Nice try getting the mod released faster, Elowind. =P

If anything, I'm getting more excited. Mainly because of something I saw on the news page:

"As we prepare for our summer release..."

Silver Fox, as a PT, how DOES the game play? is it fantastic? is it better than CS, more depth than TFC and DoD? more action than Frontline? Does it make you go "HOLY S-" and stare for hours on end, and wouldnt mind getting eaten by a Bob for the heck of it cause its so COOL?!

i would like to know ... cause the screens themselves make me lust for more. :/

cheers

you probably wont be able to have a decent nights sleep for a couple of weeks ..

^_^

Its litterally the only HL mod I play anymore. The game is both fast and slow and the action is both long and short. Theres so much variation and so much thats been put into this game .. its inspiring ...

unfortunatly some people will be disapointed ... its just a fact. But I think many of you will absolutly love the game.

I have also a little bit the same problem elowind, i think now it would be a good time to bring out a beta, a test beta, you know like SI did it with the new Beta, the bring out a beta, the beta is bugy, not fully balanced, but then everyone could play it, but there was no publicity for it, only insiders knows about it. Big bug serching, balancing, feedback....

its not that i lost intrest, its just i've stopped expecting it, odds are it may come out and i wont realise it for a whole day or two! (wouldnt that be terrible)

When does summer end?

Damn, I'm speculating again.

The only thing that could make me lose interest in NS at this stage is something like 'NS will be delayed by 5/6 months' or something like that on the news page.

A nightmare I had, that...

I'm not sure if i lost interest... but... I think not.
Sure, i don't hit the refresh-button every hour, but i spend my waiting-time with something useful(in my opinion), making thoughts about improving, creating NS-related Artwork, pimping NS all over the net...
I'm sure i won't be disappointed, just because i would more likely oversee some bugs than getting disappointed... I mean, it can't be THAT bad...

I just thought I'd throw out a random piece of information, in no way related to this thread, and NOT, i repeat, NOT speculation!

Summer ends September 22nd.

[ 6/28/02 ]::NS is feature complete
It's rather hard to believe, so brace yourself: as of midnight tonight, Natural Selection is now feature complete. It's been almost two years in the making, but commander mode, the particle system code, 27 weapons, nine alien upgrades, a dozen marine upgrades, over a dozen buildings, a couple NSTRs, and so much more, has all been created. That's not to mention anything about the hundreds of hours spent by the rest of the team on the concepts, models, textures, maps, writing, sound effects, music and everything else that's necessary to make a game.

More features will be added in the future, but right now, we have everything we need for a solid first release. We intend to spend the next few weeks bug-fixing, polishing, balancing and finishing up art tasks. When we decide it's good enough, we'll release Natural Selection for free to the public.

The point: Don't speculate off of little tidbits you read, they could be lying for all you know. Shut up and wait like the rest of us.
• TiCKTiCK Join Date: 2002-05-30 Member: 708Members
Yeah, Freemantle.

When they give "a few weeks" or "soon" or whatever kind of timeleft they want to give, it is always relative.

If I had something and I said it was coming out "very soon" I would mean next week. But you read the archives of the frontpage and past threads that are over a month old that say similar things.

My advice? Take everything with a grain of salt.

'Summer release'...

Too bad everything's STC! -_- I too have lost that hypeing feeling, y'know... that period where you'd give up your first born to play NS.

Forums have gotten kinda boring as of late, the only Dev that really posts lately is Monse and a couple others (announcing they're leaving to go someplace), No announcements, only a few storys (Of witch I'm thankful for. ^^), and if a certain forum goers math is correct (Sorry, I forgot the name ) then we have roughly 70 more weeks till release (The final 10.1% left to finish).

But whining like this is somewhat futile, but it's a good way to vent. ^^;; The PT's saying how great NS is, is simply salt in open wounds...

Anywho... done venting. I'll get NS whenever... *Breaks out AvP2* -_-

These are all fair points. We empathise with you the fans completely. Actually, we want it out even more than you do, as we both are excited to see it get played as well as exhausted from all the work of getting it ready. I promise to get some new PR out tonight (hint: Cory Strader's talents are involved). There are also some secret factors we haven't outlined to the public, but will become obvious in the near future.

We are still on track for a summer release, and hopefully much sooner than September 22nd. Right now there are a few showstopper issues being worked out for people with lesser PC's (i.e. software and D3D users), plus some remaining bugs of varying degrees, and some final balance tweaks. I will try to get you more info shortly.

Keep in mind that the quieter we get, the busier we are. So that's a good barometer for you.

Thank you MonsE, you've made my day. At least we know you're too busy doing things to NS to pay attention to taking screens and writing copy.

This is the point in a mod's development where I want to volunteer my services just to get the thing done faster I felt that way waiting for The Opera, the only other mod I've ever been excited about, and I really want to help do something with NS to get it out the door... But I know that the dev team is full and playtesters are final, so I'll just wait.

Edit: Playtesting on a Wednesday, eh? Odd.

You wouldn't believe how nice it was to see that.

Lose hope all you want, run away like a little squeaky school girl with your pigtails flapping in the breeze!! *goof* Just remember to download the game once it's released and be sure to keep your bedpan handy, because you'll be in for a wild ride.

Waiting stinks, I agree, but as a playtester I can tell you that every day of playtesting has made this a better game. And I use game not mod because this is so far from halflife it might as well be its own game.

Calling NS a half life mod is like calling Medal of honor allied assault a Quake 3 mod (same graphics engine)

Since the playtesters are SciFi aliens fans like most of you, we have beaten the devs over the head with the "change this is stinks, or keep this it's cool" stick quite a bit, and the changes have all been to our liking.

Flay is an amazing developer and an extremely objective, tolerant, and creative person who's lived by "I expect the best or nothing at all" standards since day 1 and we all have an extreme amount of respect for him.

Keep your pants on, and keep a few spare pairs around for when NS is released! You're gonna need them!

Fortunately for me, I am a man of near-infinite patience. Take as long as you like I say and get everything right.
Until then, well there's always beer to be drunk and football to be watched..(and I mean proper football btw, played with the feet and a spherical ball..)
