Early Oc's?

Blockin the rines in, early!
on pub games, and pub games only do i use this tactic maybe 1/4th of the games i play

rush to the one of the closest res, lets use ns_veil topographical resnode, as this was my last time doing it

rush to topographical and drop a well placed oc if you place it down the hall you should be able to kill one rine by yourself, then keep dropping more oc's as the game progresses and pretty soon you control the marine side to your hive so they have to go around

risky strat but works well and can get your team an easy win once you get 2-3 oc's up with you there or a DC when you arent there, of course you are a gorge constantly healing your chambers and spitting the marines whenever you can

i think it is worth the risk once you are aware of what side the rines res rushed on

wouldn't sieges destroy and waste the ocs?

even a quick shotty rush would take it down, if the comm spammed enough medpacks for them

yeah, but thats pretty costly in resources and it still delays the marines early game which allows the aliens to quickly cap res.

If 6 marines rush at you, they will kill you plus the oc, before you have time to get a second oc down. If they really want that passage that is what should happen within the first 2 minutes. Later in the game they will just give out shotguns. That res won't be wasted, because they will kill other stuff too.

With enough determination, a marine team can take out a wall of lame, no matter what weapons they use or what upgrades they have. The wall of lame has to be manned and guarded in order for there to be any use in it. One gorge usually gets wasted if marines focus fire on it.

A more interesting topic is how to place walls of lame, giving yourself 'crawlspaces' between chambers while not allowing marines to follow you - sort of like creating vents for yourself to run through.

yes but the thing is, he said the opposite direction in which the marines res rushed...If they rushed to overlook, you could easily get 3 OCs down before a marine found out...

Anyway I do this every once in a while, and it works most of the time

I prefer oc traps. Like in topographical you could put it in the holes so the bottom is not in sight and in crossfire so its really hard to get them. That way they are way more cost effective. Place them so they cant edge them. 3 ocs are the optimal number if you place them well because marines die in 6-8 hits.

OC lockdowns are primarily an MDS opener, theyre more effective than youd think and enhances the use of silence on the other map choke or 2. To siege it will cost 60 ish res, thats a fair penny tbh, so unless they wish to tech it out youll have the 2nd hive up no worries.

I've beaten rines by making OC lockdowns on some maps.

Though in their defence, any competent marine team will breeze through an OC nest like its not there. So don't rely on them to kill, rely on them to deter or act as an early warning system for marine rushes.

Blocking with OCs and SCs in ALL entrances to a MS is difficult and extremely risky, but when it works its just so much fun...

Mineshaft is the best map...half the team in generator, other half at the lift outside cafeteria...

Gorges build SCs, RTs and OCs, skulks get rfk and healing....With enough res, the skulks put up RTs and hives, while combat gorges get the uppgrade chambers on site, togheter with even more OCs and you will win so easily...if they siege on 1 RT, they wont reach far...

i meant this put did not make it clear, they are out of range of siege at base.

that is *not* an oc lockdown.

Ok well for your own benefit, I call 2 OC farms either side of rine spawn a lockdown. Especially if the rines can't pass them.

And yes they do work, and no, not against competent marine teams. Hence as a strategy I've sidelined it, preferring to focus on actual living things (marines are getting too smart for the "run into a brick wall" type of strats).
