So guys, I've played through Max Payne 2 (twice) and I've become like the biggest ADDRESS UNKNOWN addict heh. I know, pathetic, but anyway...

I was walking to class today and I had a great idea! Since there's gonna be a lot more time left before I can work on my little HL2 project (Secret Project X), I've decided it might be fun to make an ADDRESS UNKNOWN mod.

Main work would be with new levels, although I'd like to code a few more weapons (power drill/buzzsaw) if I can, and there would be a *LOT* of sound work but of course that would come later. If we could even get 5 levels though we'd be like, 1/4 the lengh of MP2. Storyline would follow the events depicted in the fake TV show throughout the game, and of course the main character would be John Mirra and your goal is to catch John Mirra.

Of course it would be a single player only project (duh) and we couldn't really get started till they release the mod tools, but I just wanted to get some opinions on who thinks this might be a fun thing to do.

Its a cancelled noir action thriller TV show set in the noir action thriller world of Max Payne. In one episode you run through the set of the theme park for it, with cheesy scare effects to boot, although it was a bit freaky running through that one part where all you heard blaring was "THE FLESH! THE FLESH!". Especially at 2am

In Max Payne 2 there are TV's scattered throughout the levels, usually apart of the scenery. On those TV's, little mock shows play, one is **** Justice, and apparently another is Address Unknown. I've only seen **** Justice myself, but I tried to play through the game, and not just stare at the levels.

You must only be on level 2 or so, because there's a whole friggin level where you're in an ADDRESS UNKNOWN funhouse...

I'll have to actually get the game first, and play it, but I'll see if I can do something. Perhaps put some of my r33t mapping skills(heh) to some use, depending on how the tools work, of course ;p

*** SPOILERS *** - The best part of Max Payne is simply the incredible story, do NOT read if you haven't played.

Well 1) If you want to play Address Unknown's movie... did you play Max Payne 2? You DID know that the entire movie (or Max Payne's life) was a reflection of the other? Mirrors are more fun then television. They are reflections of each other, and it's more fun then playing a completely seperate game with no such connection John Mirror was the one John thought was his evil twin killing everyone. The same Max thought that it was just Vladimir that was responsible, next on his 'to kill list', when he learns it's not just Vladimir, but actually Mona, and Woden himself that was responsible for the whole thing.

Furthermore, the sequences where Max is wandering around in a dream state were also reflections of Address Unknown's constant 'Diagnosis: Paranoic Schizofrenic... you are insane'. Now we all know that The Flesh Of Fallen Angels came from Max Payne 1... part of Valkyr's hallucinations. However, the flesh of fallen angels part was also a passing reference (I think) to the death of Mrs. Payne. Sort of a creepy reminder of his past.

Now ultimately, Max believed HE was responsible for the deaths of his family. Hence why in Max Payne 1 you kill yourself in a dream, and in Max Payne 2, you revisit yourself while wandering around the Police Station, etc. I'm assuming the dreams went away when he learned the truth of Woden, Valkyr, and Mona's death.

    Anyway...

BTW: I'm also assuming you didn't get the Lords and Ladies part. The L&L scenes were reflections of Max Paynes courtship of Mona Sax.

And **** Justice was just Max Payne busting out moves

Can the final boss by a gargantuan Pink Flamingo?

Also, I actually think the Valkyr junkies in Max Payne 1 picked up their random "Flesh of fallen angels" nonsense from Address Unknown, it makes more sense that they sub-conciously absorbed it from TV than making it all up, and explains how Max can see and hear all the references to such things in the theme park when he is clearly not hallucinating or in a nightmare.

TempDeleteMe, I originally wrote something in here telling you how dense and over analytical you must be to have to assume you're the only one who understands the concept of a metaphor, but I've decided to be nice and just say this:

Of course I got these references (although I think you are reading a bit too far into stuff that isn't there on a few of them). You're thinking of things in a way, way too complex manner.

    Let me make it simple:

Don't you think it'd be cool to have an actual game based around the events (be they metaphors themselves or not) into a *completely seperate* storyline? One where you're the "good" John trying to save your girlfriend from the evil John Mirra, all the while taking a trip into demented madness that is gonna make people think they are on crack have became skitzo as a result of the game? I sure do!
