Are gamers generally less likely to be Christian?

yes i could've put this in poll format but i doin't really know what i am doing....wow i'm surprised i figured there would be more christians, brings up my next curious question....are gamers generally more prone to not be christian?

I would think so. Gamers are generally, from my observations, more cynical, which would affect their worldview...

However, I think it really matters on the person. Just as no two gamers are the same, no two Christians are the same.

Gamers are generally younger - which means their parents have the reins. Christians are usually conservatives who fear change/anything different. Games such as NS are therefore usually banned to the average Christian Gamer. So yeah, you wont find that many Christian gamers.

One thing to keep in mind Tool is that while christianity might find fertile soil in places like a lot of america, some places are predominantly athiest like britian; especially scotland. You'll be hard pressed to find a 'believer' here without heading into one of our ancient crumbling churches or a christian social group ^^
It's an international board so it's fun to see some things more different than usual... There's actual more christians I know on the net than I do at home. In fact... I only know 1 christian family in RL and I'd file them under 'christian-lite' because they don't really seem too solidly into their beliefs =3

I think there are few hardcore Christian gamers because thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Also, many games require the player to kill, which thou shalt not do.
Lastly, being a gamer today means having Internet access, and we all know how many un-Christian things there are on the Net (e.g. homosexual porn).

The idea of wide-spread Christianity, or any religion is pretty foreign to me. I'm English, and i don't actually know anyone who is religious "irl". Or at least i don't know anyone outwardly religious (i'm 21 btw). The number of devout followers on this board is pretty staggering to me. Would I be right in thinking America is a tad more religious than we are over here?

Is "going to Church" actually somewhat common? Because as far as my upbringing goes, Churches are places where people get married in TV programs.

Personaly, when people stop worring about "religion" and dismiss it for what it is, utter nonsence, the world will be a much better place. Of course that will never happen(Middle east) but some parts of the world are best forgotten.

but yeah. almost every single gamer friend i have is christian.... for one reason or another. (no i did not choose them as friends because they're christian too.)

uh... no zig, seriously. Over in the UK the vast majority of people <b>are</b> athiest. Just because in america religion is common doesn't mean everywhere else conforms to its ways =P

Gamers are too big a demographic to draw religious borders. Keep in mind that pretty much <i>every</i> male between 14 and 24 spends several hours weekly gaming. And as for the 'DOOM'-argument of unchristian symbolicism that could deter potential faithful players, one of IDs best level designers is a mormon.

I went to Catholic schools from K-12. Most of my friends growing up were Catholic. Almost all were gamers. And most of my non-gaming friends were also not Catholic. Draw your own conclusions.

just to clarify, my definition of a christian is a person who has put all their faith into jesus christ and believed in him and what he did for humanity....no I don't think churches are bad places but I was only regular for a short period in my life about 8 months between my 17-18 yearold years. Churches if properly run can be a great uplifting place for fellow christians to share their beliefs in a friendly loving environment...but in no way is it the key to salvation....anyone who knows much about christianity knows this....I think christianity is more prevalent in america because the people who founded our country were pretty much all christian for the most part (i.e. puritans, quakers). Also the southern U.S. (alabama, texas) seem to be much more conservative christian than most of the other parts of the U.S....but this is coming from a person that's never lived anywhere but Alabama...so I'm not sure i can claim this..
