http://hl2hosting.com/amckern/ns_2wad0029.JPGThe infested hive textures look a bit out of place, if you know what I mean

And again the hive needs some spiffy lighting to make it look infest-ish....maybe try a bit of green at low intensity will make it look good.

And there's too much red.

BTW, is this actually NS SP?If so it looks good, but needs some work on the texturing

um yeah, the top 4 don't have thumbs sorry

The hive lighting is not done, its just there to test the funk_seethrough, and the watter fx

Everything that is not white/grey is game play tertory, the rest is ready room - the ready room is done

Atleast the name 'block' fits the arcitecture and layout of the map

I'm sorry, but there really isn't any consistent style throughout the map. I feel like I'm looking ot shots of about 5 totally different maps. You really do need to establish a style and stick to it throughout the whole map, or at least most of it. A deviation between say, the command deck and the maintenance deck would obviously be understandable, but it's got to look like they are both part of the same place, and your shots don't give me that impression.

ouch, that was harsh.

Ok, the water fx are going to be my main highlight here. I posted a thread a little while ago here that goes into detail about the water effect that i'm using. Look there for a little bit. The effect that you're doing right now seems to have a problem in that the alien infestation doesn't look realistic. In short you can't see through pond scum. period. Rendermode solid Renderamount 255. There's no reason for that opacity, especially since it makes the texture look like it has a lot more light on it than the surroundings.

Also it looks like you've done a func_water (or func_illusionary with the content set to water) textured in the alien texture. This kind of makes it look like you have alien gunk floating in midair. Use another func_water (rendermode additive, renderfx 50-150 range, same xy as the original, just 1 unit tall placed at the top of the original water. This will give a slight wave look to it, make it look like you have content underneath the water. I'd really need to see some more screenshots of just the water to be able to give more advise.

When you're testing the map for general look and feel instead of gameplay don't worry about making any of the entities that are used for gameplay. Just have one info_player_start that you put at whatever point on the map you're looking at. This way when you take screenshots there's no hud/weapon/teeth/othergarbagewedon'tneedtosee cluttering up the view. It helps anyone who is making comments to be able to see as much as possible per shot. Let me know about any questions on the water effects and whatnot.

Was it? . I really didn't mean for it to be, I just wanted to get the point across.

Yeah, perhaps. You should say something positive about the map as well (if it have any)
I especially like the cage hive

sorry insane...was replying to marcos' post while you were writing yours.

Ok, positive about the hive: Water. I don't think enough maps (bast excluded) use water in the hives. Not only does it add great atmosphere but it gives skulks a universal advantage in that they move better through water than anyone else.

the watter hive (okish name) uses funk_seethrough with alpha1 texture

funk_seethrough is shotthrougable, and alows a player to have a solid footing

I read you post on watter a while ago, and its a good idea

The infest texture (funk_seethrough) is over scaled about 9 x 4 times, so its looking out of place

also, the more critsim i get - and your ideas on how i can fix it, would help

as you can see, the ready room, changed alot from what i started with due to helpful critsism, and screen shots of how to fix it

Sorry, but your map really needs lot of work. The architecture is way too blocky and the walls and ceiling lack of detail. The lighting is very bland and boring, needs more contrast, perhaps some color, and togheter with the dull architecture this gives the map absolutely no "NS-feeling" at all.
Also: the texture-choice in http://hl2hosting.com/amckern/ns_2wad0019.JPG is horrible.
The hive-room looks like an ok start, but you really should change the infected-stuff from "Additive" to "Solid".
