<div class="IPBDescription">ns_crashland</div> NS_Crashland

- Marine's crash landed in a jungle, on an alien planet,
- alien is everywhere I think
dark... watery -- tree tops are super high, branches are everywhere, some branches alien or jetpackers can stop on them
hive names:
Mountain side
Ancient Ruin
Swamp

A map like this would work to create a more 3 D effect in NS... higher freedom of movement... a friend and I would like to make such a map but we would like some feedback or more ideas... I.E. what do you think of this idea?

Thanks!!

It is an alright idea, but I have seen this tried many times for other mods and just doesn't come out like first expected.
Some problems that you would run into on this map are:
    - huge r speeds because of the amount of detail that you are asking for and the wide open areas. OR lack of detail to avoid the high r speeds and it comes out looking bad. If you were to use models for most of the trees and/or shrubs like dod did, that would lower the w poly's loads
    - early jetpackers, lerks, and fades would finish the game off
    - incorporating a ceiling somewhere outside so as not to hit an invisible barriar in the sky
    - being able to incorporate good gameplay throughout it.

If you can manage around these and keep the gameplay even and fun, than it should be a good map. gl

So are you saying there should be individual trees all over the map, that would be insanely hard to navigate. But the other option is to make a path per say, with walls of bushes and trees on each side, which, while getting the job done, would make the whole point of the map kind of stupid. The idea seems cool though.

Open air maps will never work with NS properly. Period.

You will need an insane amout of entities for all the leaves of plants or models that just can't stay under the limit of 200. Necessary fog effects to decrease the view range would do the rest anyway. Sorry.

    maybe hl2 will fix it.

"hey commander, severall contacts about 400 metres ahead. need orders." - "Take a route around enemy forces, scout troop sighted 2 onos so be careful." - "Roger that! Benny, drive us through that woods!" *buggy starts moving*

    ...
    *suddenly stops with harsh sound*

"ouf what was that?" - "Dunno something hit the... OH ****!"
"REQUEST EMIDIATE AIRSTRIKE TO OUR POSI...." *silence*

    ^^

    um, yeah nice post.....

Anyway, I had already given that idea out & been told off about it, but there are some outdoor areas in HL, that r used in a way, like canyons & cliff faces & so on, it is possible, but it will take alot of work to do....
