Faster then 3, easy as 2, 4? What 4?
Just downloaded it a second ago...

-Loads faster, if not as fast as Winamp 2

-Supports Winamp 3 skins (And I think Winamp 2 as well, not sure)

-Pretty small memory footprint (4MB while using a simpler skin)

-Has alot of cool features of Winamp 3 intact... opacity looks sweet

-Stable, from what I hear

I wasn't a fan of Winamp 3, but version 5 is running great! However, my SqrSoft Crossfader doesn't work for version 5, so it's hampering my enthusiasm.

Why use winamp at all when you could be using foobar 2000? It's quite possibly the most well designed piece of software I've ever used. It's target audience is people who want tons of functionality with great performance and minimal graphical junk. It rox.

    didn't they say they're calling it 5 because it's basically winamp 2 + winamp 3? =3
Twisted logic, but whatever bounces their bonbons ^^

You would willingly use Winamp 3? Are you insane?

WinAMP 2.91 for me. 3 is just a skin for WMP anyway. :b

(Literally, it is... if you uninstall WMP, WA3 will NOT run)

Yeah... I just downloaded that skin this morning... it totally pwns... especially when used with the Winamp 5 alpha I've had for over a month... Seriously... there is now officially no reason for you to be using winamp 3, in case you still don't get it, 5 is the skin/plugin features of 3, with the stability, support, low cpu/memory usage and lack-of-memory-leak-ness of 2.

What about the plugins? I could never find the plugins menu in winamp 3...
  • AgentOrangeAgentOrange Join Date: 2002-11-18 Member: 9244Members
BAH! It still always opens set to "Always on Top" which I really don't want...I have to turn it off each time. Also I can't put my playlist from the MMD3 skin in winshade mode. Other than that it's cool, I dunno doesn't seem any better than 3 was to me.

"Always on top"? that doesn't happen to me... must be one of those wonderful Windows XP "features"

Try right-clicking on the Main Window. Go to Options and it should be listed there. Or you could use the shortcut Ctrl+A.

I know that, but it doesn't default to it for me... However, it does remember if I do set it to "always on top" which is actually what I want when it is in winshade mode.

I hated Winamp3, but 5 might make me switch from MusicMatch, it's THAT good. I'm very impressed.

it lacks the only feature i really like about Winamp 3, The 'fold out' playlist listing, in the playlist window.
really that's what i like about W3, its such a simple and nice feature.

whoever said to use foobar, it sucks.

    1. its a huge window, no small skin like my precious winamp.
    2. it doesn't even minimize to taskbar by pressing the minimize button
    3. ugly as hell!
  • Smoke_NovaSmoke_Nova Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8697Members
nukeagua, try to trim the Screenshot next time. That picture, however much some people might like it, is definetely not PG material and would kill a 56k.

The Edge Amp 2.91 for me.

    1. You can make it as big or as small as you want.
    2. it does minimize to the taskbar, but you have to set it to do that.
    3. Its not flashy at all, which is the point of it. Its all about functionality and simplicity. I can do tons of things with foobar that simply aren't available in winamp. Masstagging, formatting strings, replay gain, stop after current, reconfigurable hotkeys. It also deals with huge playlists without the slightest bit of slowdown. And I don't have to put up with annoying skins and an awkward interface. .

Seriously, have you seen another player so configurable that the play button was an optional part of the interface?

edit: Oh yeah, no f***ing minibrowser.
