American Suvs

Need help from my American brothers
At first I was thinking of buying Japanese SUVs, but since I live in Asia, I thought it would be cool if I bought an American SUV instead.

There are very few choices for American SUVs in my country, so I'll have to choose between these two:

http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/explorer/...ndex.asp?bhcp=1

OR

http://www.chevrolet.com/trailblazer/

Which one would you choose?

Trailblazer is as ugly as a rock. Ford isn't very attractive either. I like my Jeep Grand Cherokee personally. But I'd take the Chevy over the Ford due to bad experiences with Ford Motors in the past.

Actually, my mom has a Suzuki Grand Vitara, and is quite pleased with it. Just because it's American doesn't mean it's going to be better. Additionally, if you want to get a Chevy SUV, and don't mind driving a gas-guzzling tank, I think a Tahoe or a Suburban would be a better choice.

I will never understand SUVs, they cost to much, they suck gas like its water, and they just aint that good looking.

Not to mention that I am from NYC (the fn suv capitol of the world) where the yupies get in their suvs to drive a freikn block (mmm, thats like 5 bucks )

man, there are better looking cars.

If you get a car, get it for usefulness, not for size. If you are a contract-worker, like Carpenter or something, get a pickup or SUV, but if it's for personal driving, get a smaller cheap car that gets 30-40 miles to the gallon, not .5-3.

i'de say to stay away form the SUV market... but if it is what you have your heart set on, go for the chevy.

i have a very low opinion of ford cars and trucks... i personally drive a ford tarus, and i wish i didn't. but when your 19, you take what you can get.

Found On Road Dead = ford... no offence to you die-heard for users, but aside from looks, chevy has the corner on the market in japanese SUVs ...at least in my opinion.

I'm after SUVs for practicality, high ground clearance is what I need in my country.

Huge potholes you can't even imagine.

And the slightest rain can cause floods.

I just thought a "foreign" SUV would be really cool, specially in school, where everyone drives Honda Civics.

I like cars better too, but I can see where SUVs would be worthwhile. Definitely not city driving, but good for crosscountry trips.

In the US, everyone may seem to drive and SUV, and you guys may be sick of it.

But here in Asia, its the other way around. Everyone else is driving a Honda Civic, and I'm tired of that.

Note to those guys that are actually replying to the original topic:

When you check the Trailblazer's link, click on the photo gallery, 'cause the first pic doesn't do it justice.

    ......

Have they fixed the problem where most SUVs axels would tend to break if you actualy drove them on uneven surfaces, and would roll?

Honestly, if you wan't a car designed for harder terain I would sugest getting like a pickup then. This way you get the groundclearance, the horsepower and better looks (imho)
  • Smoke_NovaSmoke_Nova Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8697Members
Actually homerx, now that i've thought of your ground-clearance problem, what you really should get, is a Jeep. A jeep jeep. They probably sell them, as they are very good, they don't guzzle as much gas as an SUV, they are the same height, have the same off-road kinda stuff, and are Jeep's. and if you can find an authentic WW2 Jeep, it comes with the best anti-theft device. An m1 Garand was originally put in a little storage thing right above the steering wheel.

    Thansal,

I agree. Pick-ups do look better than SUVs.

That is why I asked the local Ford dealerships if they will have the 04' F-150 in stock early next year. Sadly, they don't know sh*t.

I then asked the local Chevrolet dealership about the 03'-04' Silverado, and luckily enough, they have and will continue to have stocks.

Anyway, I hope and pray that I get the right vehicle for me.

If you feel like compensating for something, why not go with the H2!!

Its the largest SUV in its class!! Why not go for size over efficiency!! Be like all those yuppies that think if they have a bigger vehicle, they have a better social status!! It comes in both gunmetal and black, has 46 phones, 3 satelite dishes, and has a HAL 9000 computer system! "Im sorry Dave, but I can not let you do that"

note* the true views of this person are that it is a shame to put the name "Hummer" on this vehicle because a true hummer is a military vehicle, not a suburban bus.
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
me points out that the H2s realy are hummers, andinfact hummers have been ussed for civilian purposes for a long time, its just that this is the first to actualy be marketed to civilians (Also the army has moved away from hummers as I recall)
