<div class="IPBDescription">kill those upper life forms</div> Hey,
i've noticed that alot of nubs to the game take a long time to become effective killers on marine...
in my opinion this slow rate of learning is due to the wacked out hit boxes of all the aliens... after a long enough time playing a person tends to shoot more at the correct spots because they've conditionally learned from being killed a thousand times....
but most people who are informed of where to shoot the aliens... begin improving their marine game tremendously almost immediatly....
so... here goes nubs... btw - those who are leeter than me please feel free to correct my mistakes/flame my content/ect...
skulk: if the skulk is standing(or running) so hes faced sideways to you... if you shoot him in the head or front lets... he takes no damage... there is no hit box there... you must aim toward his back half... butt to belly buttonish...
also the hit box for skulks extends above the model of the skulk almost the full height of the skulk... so if they run over a ledgfe or something and you cant see them dont keep from shooting where you think they are.... the hit box will stick up beyond where they can be seen...
when they are running straight at you this isnt as much of a problem... but be sure to aim just a touch high... toward the top of the skulk model... to be most effective.... if they are bunnyhopping toward you(why is it that aliens can bunnyhop but marines can't???)... then aim fairly high... most of the time their model will be up off the ground and their hit box as well... if you aim high more bullets seem to hit
also... when a skulk is on the wall they keep the same wacky hit box... a skulk stopped on the wall wont take any hits in his head or front legs unless hes crawling straight up the wall... still have to hit his butt... and if hes on the ceiling it seems like the hit box extends into the ceiling a little making him a little bit harder to hit
lerk: these guys hit box is almost decent... when they are crawling around on the ground at least.... as soon as they take flight their hit box dropps down below them (thats why you see lerks flying with just their feet sticking out of the ceiling when they are skimming against the ceieling)...
so flying lerks are hard to kill... in order to increase your chances of killing them aim at the feet of the lerk... or even right below his toes... if hes flying and you aim at his head/wings/upper body... no hits
gorge: this guys hit box is almost exactly the same as the skulks.... even tho the gorge is fat the hit box is a little narrower like a skulks.... and if hes at his side you have to shoot him in the rear portion of the model... the hit box sticks up beyond the model for gorges as well so u can aim high on these guys too...
fades: this hit box is probobly one of the most frustrating... until i figured this out it took direct intervention by god himself for me to kill a fade... my problem was i always aimed toward their chest and arms... seems like the easiest place to guarantee a hit logically.... but ooooh no...
fades hit box is from the floor to about their lower stomach... any hits directed to their chest/head or arms dont register... if you shoot below their arms... between teh floor and their arms where theres nothing but empty space... then you get hits.... but generally i just try to aim for the fades groin and this seems to work well... if you have 2 people aiming at a fades groin they wont live through a full clip of even lvl 0 weapons... knowing this makes fades much more possible to solo... although still a pain in the arse
onos: probobly the worst hit box of all... these guys from the side you can shoot from the tip of the onos horn all the way to where his back legs start and not get any hits... (this is why onos seem to have such huge range when your an onos... because your view starts near the ono's back legs)... also their hit box isnt as tall as the onos is either... so what i do is shoot at the bottom of their belly... if you have 2-3 guys who know where to shoot at an onos... they go down sooooo much easier(little over a clip from 2-3 guys)... unless your all stunned from stomp of course...
well i hope this helps... good luck... if you didnt already know this stuff or if you think im full of it.... load into an empty server w/ a friend and test it for yourself... it will make you much more understanding of why nubby marines have so much trouble...

The middle isn't always a hitbox <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Balance...bah! there aliens for god sakes..they can ADAPT!
They need to be logically moved to the center of the aliens body in the next version.
Good post!
Went to HLMV and studied the freeking hitboxes till my eyes popped out.
Than im a deadly onos killa.
Skulk= Aim for the slightly high middle part
Gorgie=shoot his fat **** (if can ambush em use pistol first no matter which distance)
Lerk = middle body, balls if hes hovering with flapping
Fade= aim slightly above his balls
Onos= aim *always* where his titties are/should be (low belly).
btw.
the hitboxes in hlmv are not the same for real players,as far as i heard they are for bots only (whichbot for example).
Get a friend and try it out,u will be surprised how much shots simply miss.
For onos: theres a improved biped version in custom model forum which displays the hit boxes a bit better.
Is this correct?
Just yesterday I shot two skulks in a row in the face, at point blank, with a lvl 1 shottie and both went down in one hit. Maybe in the fray I'd actually shot them in the feet...
omg that is painful... but very useful.
does anyone know how to view the hitboxes? do you use wc, or is there something else?

Your shot probably went through the head and to the back of their body where the hitbox actually is. From the front it usually doesn't matter where you aim, but from the side it makes a difference (for a skulk at least).

That is possibly the best post I've ever seen!
Aim for it's ****/balls/arse!
