What Marine Would You Rather Have?

TOOLTOOL Join Date: 2003-10-07 Member: 21501Members
I don't know about alot of people but I'd rather have an elite rambo under my command then 2 very loyal marines that stick to the gameplan...maybe its just me but the way i see it is if that rambo can get around 3 skulk kill before he dies and take downa few nodes then its far better then having two other guys follow ur orders....maybe its just the way i comm....check thread "new strategy...i think".....I'd rather have a team of rambo's then a teamfull of medium skilled players that follow ur orders

    lemme get this straight....

rambo=guy who goes around destroyin anything in his path n dosent follows orders

if you have a team full of rambos then whos gonna build your stuff?

assuming my rambos will build for there benefit and upgrades...haha good point

You will. You drop a bunch of stuff in base, hop out of the chair and build it, then hop back in.

Also, even rambos will usually submit to building a building or two right after they respawn--especially if its an armory so they can get ammo.

rambo = dont follow orders kills 1 alien and dies by the next one
Ninja = Rambo who builds, can handle the weapons, kills aliens and walks in strategic self thinking movment.

TOOL means of having a ninja in his squad, two clanlers and some JustMeat-Guys

OK.But what gonna TOOL make if the alienteam isnt complete nap and realised early to proctect the rts.
Btw. There many aliens ninjas outa there

When there are multiple ninjas in the game, then the deciding factor is who has the most of them on the team. If the aliens have more, then you're screwed. If you have more, then you're set. In games where ninja counts are even, ninjas stick together and there are very interesting ninja battles that go on. Of course, high ninja counts are rarely seen on the average pub server.

Ninja = one that knows how to play well, uses strategy, can make decisions by using logic, and thinks on his feet (and in the air) - doesn't have to be told what to do all the time. In short, a very skilled player that any commander would love to have.

Dedicated Marine = a player that constantly has to be told what to do and follows orders only when they are given.

Rambos = players that run around and get killed, usually accomplishing nothing.

Naturally, the more intelligent players you have on your team, the easier your job is as a commander. If you have few intelligent players while the other team has many, then you will find your job very difficult. Only when both teams are even is there what you can call a balanced field where commanding skills and strategies actually matter most.

I'd rather have medium-skilled Marines who follow orders, than rambos. Why?
Rambos don't and can't know what is going on. The commander does.
Rambos don't and can't react to what is going on. Obedient marines can and do - the commander tells them everything.
Rambos would probably run to a hive to knife it to death... and they'd themselves die, after taking 30 hp off the hive, by a skulk.
Obedient marines would probably stay outisde a hive, build sieges, and win the game. Yes, the siege tactic might fail, if the Marines couldn't kill the attacker. But that rarely happens <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

the best rines are the ones that gather up 4 teammates, attack a hive and take it down before you even know what they're doing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> - i.e. marines with inititive. not suicidal rines, ones w inititive. they fill in the gaps. when you're focusing on somewhere else, theyre doing something helpful. cap free res points. take down random ones. great to have.

oh and i love the shotty ninjas who kill 8 skulks, a lerk and then knife a gorge <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Personally, I like the seargents. The little guys who take the initiative, but take people with them. It's amazing to see sometimes.

Comm©: Triad is under attack, someone get there!
Seargent(S): <guy1>, <Clanguy2>, <guy3>, you're with me, we're going to triad, then sweeping eclipse, capping power sub, then camping CC until needed.
    <Clanguy2> Roger
    <Guy1> ok
    <Guy3> er.......I'll just follow you

    I've seen it happen....great stuff

A combination of ninjas and dedicated team players is probably best. The ninja does a lot of damage, and usually a response of multiple aliens is required to defeat it. The dedicated team players get handed all the HA/HMG/gl/welder stuff to rush the hive on one side of the map. The ninja sees this in the chat and decides to fire 3 rounds into the hive on the other side of the map to bring aliens there. Then he kills a chamber in the hive with 2 lmg clips. The aliens arrive en masse and kill him. Then their hive on the other side of the map is being sieged from the minibase complete with pg and elec tf. Or even better, the ninja marine sets up a minibase while the HA train attacks, then you attack that hive as soon as you finish the first one.

I like to have one Rambo and one Rambo only. It's always good to have one ninja messing with the aliens whilst the rest of your team does their job. Especially when it's a good Rambo because he can usually keep the entire alium team occupied if you feed him medpacks often enough. But more than one is usually disagreeable, excpet on large servars.

I don't care if I got rambos or dedicated whatever marines. I just don't want the stupid ones that do the darndest things. Like for example hump the armory to infinity or sit around base looking stupid. My favorite is when they completely forget their orders as soon as they die. WTH

While you can be successful with a limited number of rambos, you will fail miserably with an entire team of them.
Kharaa 1: Hey, they're all ramboing.
Kharaa 2: Well, let's stop building those rts that they keep taking down, and instead go fade or onos so they can't take us on on one/attack in groups/destroy their base. That'll teach 'em.
Kharaa 1: Haha, learning. Good one.

Indeed, one or two really good rambos can be helpful, but only marginally more than those that follow orders. Rambos aren't nearly as hard to counter as, say, working together, getting a few rts, and then mowing down the enemy with an HA train.

I would rather have a rambo/Free movement marine if he listened to the basic commands such as build A since its right infront of you or kill B instead of C if they are the same distance. A good strat is to have them on pressure teams. Rambo's retain movement freedoms while helping the entire team in a dramatic way.

Late game, a good setup is:

Jetpacks for Rambos (If you can afford it), HA for guys who listen. HMG for rambos, HMGs/Shotties for listeners, GLs for the followers of the listeners.

Hmm.Easy.A team of 100% good shooters who know how to follow orders, can use initiative, etc.

100% good shooters? I sitll haven't found out who's the best shooter in NS, because of the LMG and HMG's weird cone of fire.

A good shot can be a very good spawncamper...for instance in a corridor outside a hive or similar...

Problem being, that with to many rambos, you end up being able to do nothing, since you have no squads to work with...
