<div class="IPBDescription">hmmm.....</div> I have decided between two motherboards...

The <a href='http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4p800-d/overview.htm' target='_blank'>Asus P4P800 Deluxe</a>
or
The <a href='http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4p800/overview.htm' target='_blank'>Asus P4P800</a>

Which one is better? Which one would you guys recommend?

Here are the specs for my computer I'm making:

P4 2.4 ghz
80 gig hard drive (7200rpm, 8mb buffer)
GeForce 4 Ti 4600 (getting ATI 9800)
etc

I'm not really sure what kind of DDR ram I should get.....

Anyways, gimme your ideas!

Get an Intel Pentium 4 2.4B or C. Then get that Asus P4P800 Deluxe. It has Firewire and the Intel HT technology.

The P4P800 series can handle the 400 mhz FSB, the 500 mhz FSB and the 800 mhz FSB.

and get it from Newegg, but make sure to get retail version.

Umm if you want Raid go with delux if not go with standard. The firewire comes on the Audigy cards now so if you plan on using an Audigy 2 you dont need it on the mobo.

    and the P4P800 is $91.80 (if you mention Pricewatch.com and order on-line) from <a href='http://www.partspc.com/store/product190.html' target='_blank'>clicky</a>

edit: my bad that was the S hang on ill get the other link

    edit2:

    here it is its $108 <a href='http://www.nexcomdirect.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId=ACCWARE-12367862QVINV315&ic=MBASUP4P800' target='_blank'>clicky</a>

P4 2.4ghz has three different types, referring to the different Front Side Buses

Type A is the 400 mhz FSB
Type B is the 533 mhz FSB
Type C is the 800 mhz FSB

I got type B, but then a day later Newegg gets stocked with Type C after my stuff had shipped.

I would get the P4 2.4ghz C but I ordered my P4 type A CPU about 3 months ago.....So I doubt they would take it back. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Will my type A cpu still work with the p4p800 deluxe? (I might upgrade to a 3.2 cpu sometime later so I'm not worried about the 400mhz fsb)

    I'm almost 100% sure im getting the p4p800 deluxe, but I'm waiting to see what you guys think <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .....Any more suggestions/comments? (Any would be nice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

I'd say to go for the Deluxe, while already laying out the cash. RAID does come in very useful, when you want to put together a high-density machine, want multiple CD/DVD burners (Reproduction machines are especially helped by striped RAID), or just in general want to blow your HDD bottleneck wide open with extra-high transfer rates. And not everyone really wants an Audigy... they really don't have that much over a standard SBLive! Value, beyond Linux-incompatability (though someone has hashed together an EMU10K1 module that at least makes it operate like an SBLive) and a firewire port. It's really not worth the cash, compared to $25 for the Live.

A scary note is that it's possible to use Audigy 2 drivers with Audigy 1s and get the same performance; most of Creative's drivers have an internal check on them to stop this normally but they missed it out on the original CD which someone happily stuck on the net and I've been enjoying enhanced sound ever since ^^
