Game Engine Modification Course
I cant believe my luck. Just as I am finishing my last 3 credits here at PSU and looking for some filler material to stay as a full time student, I find this course.
IST402 Emerging tech. It wont count as any elective in my engineering degree but as I mentioned I already have my grad requirements.
What is IST402? Game engine modification! In essence the first half of the course we will be experimenting with a game engine: (unreal or HL to start as there are lots of resources available for these). The second half of the course will be involved in using an engine to design some sort of modification of our own.
Granted 1 semester isnt much time to iron out all the details but its a good place to start. Hopefully we will also be allowed to work with the HL2 engine as it comes out. Definately a harder platform to start on but with only 3 other credits scheduled it should fit into my schedule nicely!!!
Are there any other PSU students on the boards that are going to take this course? Or do you have any experience with the instructor, Magy?
Sorry for the rant I just got so excited when I got the email stating that I would be allowed to take the course! (Because im an engineering student I have to get special permissions for IST classes).

But I realized that for $36,000 I would get a degree that would be useless if I couldn't crack the field. And I really don't see Fullsail being a big advantage in the job market. SO I will go to a four year school for Comp Sci, and use my design talents coupled with the programming I learn at school and work my way into game design that way.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Pretty much my thoughts exactly <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Same thing here. Gaming is my hobby. As much as I would love to be a professional designer I thought a better idea would be to earn a Computer Engineering degree that I can use a my safety.
The game design class offered here is just icing on the cake.
