How to win more often
A measure of a good com is being able to be flexable enough to work with a bad team. Anyone and easily command a responsive team that does as they are told, and that completes objectives, the trick is getting good results from a set of new players, or ones without disipline.
If you have experiance as a commander you will easily recognize simptoms of a bad rine team :
-> Marines ignore waypoints.
-> Marines ignore gaurd orders
-> Marines fail to build buildings
-> You frequently have to get out of the com chair to help them complete an objective.
-> Marines don't stay grouped into squads, they tend to all runn off alone.
-> Your team keeps getting owned by gorges because they can't shoot.
Solutions to bad the bad team behavior:
-> Make Begin by sending your entire team together as a singel squad. Get them use to covering eachother.
-> Have them complete small objectives together: Capturing a res node and TF'ing it before they go.
-> Send them all to an empty hive and TF it after you get your second RT. Usally They go off ontheir own because they are bored.
-> Keep an eye on which marines are listning to your orders; The ones that are get rewarded with better guns.
-> upgrade your weapons lab to 3/3 before handing our better guns; it is likely they will die too soon to make the gun a worth while investment. Upgrade armor to 3 first.
-> keep an open line of communication, having a Microphone is usually vital for this since noobs ignore text on the screen.
-> 'Hover' over your squad, hot key them so you can keep a close eye on them. Med-packing as needed.
-> Reward them by invesing res on them when they complete an objective by dropping a shotgun or two at base.
-> make waypoints close, frequently, and in line of sight. This keeps your squad together, and makes it more likely they will go to the waypoint since it is only down at the end of the corridor.
-> Be sure to repeat your objectives such as 'Do not shoot the hive, build siege cannons' etc.
-> When sending marines to a hive to siege put the wp just far enough away that they wont wander inside, then drop a TF in their path. They will be far more likely to build it. Also wait with your hotkeys ready to drop turrets ASAP so they don't leave the TF alone without turrets.
-> Don't be afraid to Shotgun rush if you are playing a big game; since it is likely you will lose, this makes the game go much quicker so you end up with a better team .
-> most important of all keep them busy and keep talking to them, telling them they are doing a good job when appropriate.
-> try not to build an armory too soon.
-> Try to bargain with them saying things like: "if you build 2 more RT's, i will give you all shotguns."
Just remember that with a lot of attention on directing the players can turn a losing team into a group to contend with, on the other hand if you are playing aliens, there is no real way to correct the actions of your team mates. At the very least when you play as a Commander on marines you can direct the team to function towards focused goals. Don't worry if they seem small at first because you need to build their confidence.

Are you playing on a n00b server?
rofl!
However it is way more satisfying to cajole and bludgeon a win out of complete n00bs, just because of the sheer challenge.
That and after the game you usually get comments like "omg awesome comm" and "com is teh r0x0r" because they have never seen a decent comm before. hehe
Although the servers i play on are usually better than average... sometimes it's fun to go to a noob server just to see if you can make a bunch of rejects kick ****. It is the biggest insult you can give to a competent player. Wouldn't you love to play as a alien, owning marines left and right only to get sieged and lose in under 5 min? ....haha
In the process you might help out a lowley noob by showing them how it's done; which is great because we were once all noobs at this game too. If it were not for some great players showing me the ropes it would have been much harder to catch on. I loathed the com chair at first, however now it feels like home; beer cozey and all
All that aside i think it is worth the 15 min for experianced players to try to work with a noobish team. You learn a lot from their failures, trials, and tribulations. In the end it makes you a better com.
Usually I think it is a bad idea to get out of the comm chair at all unless it is being eaten by aliens. It creates uncertainty among the new players, and you risk that some of your men will drop whatever they are doing and head for marine spawn (to get themselves some bigger guns). And though it can be more than frustrating at times, staying comm the whole game is really good for morale.
I have seen wonderful results with bribery. It is just amazing what seemingly stupid marines can accomplish if they are promised bigger guns. If the one who puts the last bullet in a hive gets a HMG, then there is a good chance, that everyone will rush (at the same time if not together) and create some illusion of team work.

2.) Join aliens
