<div class="IPBDescription">roasting.... or is it ok?</div> Well I just pieced my new baby together and all seems to be running quite well.

Specs are:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP 3000 Barton
1 Gig DDR

Compared to my last machine it is quite an upgrade. My last machine was a MSI KT72Turbo, AMD Athlon XP 1800, 768 MB SDRam

Still using the same GeForce 4 Ti4600, but on the new machine, I can see quite an improvement as well. My 3dMark score has more than doubled on my new setup.

Well, my clanmembers have told me that my new processor is quickly on its way to catching on fire (it is also overclocked to 2.3 GHz instead of the default 2.1). 2 of my clan members have the exact same setup as I do now, except for heatsink.

What I don't understand is how they can say this when my new machine runs quite cooler than my old. My old would idle around 115-117 F and get up to 127F when gaming.

The picture below shows my current idle temps, and gaming temps get up to 114F max.

I have looked around the AMD website for temperature listings and whatnot but have been unable to find them.

Anyways, are these temps OK? Will I quit a game of NS one day only to see smoke coming from my case?

    They're fine. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    EDIT:
    Catching on fire temperature would be going 70-80 degrees celcius, which, as you can see, you are nowhere near.

    My computer runs hotter than that and it's absolutely stable and fine.

    Well, I'd say they're ok, and your computer seems to agree. (Based on - "Status - Ok")

    Just watch out for the aroma of melting silicon if it gets out of control...for some reason.

    Your clanmembers were probably confusing the Fahrenheit values for Celcius ones.

    Well ya it says OK but I could set that program to give an alarm at any temperature. That's just a program.

    Anyways cool thx. My buddies keep telling me how theirs runs at 90F and mine is going to melt.

    It's more than fine. Sure, you could get it even cooler, but it's not necessary. Computers <i>can</i> run at around 50-55°c, as that's what the AMD box bundled coolers do about. Though I don't like to have around 50-55 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My computer usually runs below 25 C. As a matter of fact, it's running at 19 C right now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    May have to reapply my thermal compound then I guess, after it melts with the CPU. I'm running at 62C right now, which IS pretty darn hot, honestly. Need to just go spring for a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ and be done with it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the maximum for amd's is 90c, so anything lower is good TRY to keep it lower than 80..with my case closed while playing i get 70, so i keep the case open so it stays at 60...at idle its 50.
