I tend to agree with Ebert on movies of this calibre and his review is promising, I might warn you of spoilers if you're a weenie for that kind of stuff. Nothing that shouldn't have been obvious to you already:

Come into the light my children...and see Kill Bill Vol 1. I have seen it...and I can only say that it was DEFINETELY worth the price of admission. It was about 100-110 minutes.

The movie is very well shot, with absolutely no CGI, even during fight scenes.

I've practiced with a boken (Katana) and from what I saw in the movie...Yuen Wo-Ping (the Matrix kung-fu trainer) trained them very well.

My review: A little excessive with the blood, very cool with the switches, very good story explanation. 8.75/10

    if you like tarantino

    if you love tarantino

    if you live tarantino

    see the f***ing movie.

    there are no words.

you know how he is with music, if you know his movies. EVERY song, just SPOT on in this movie.

    choreography: amazing.

    the technique: amazing.

    the drama: amazing.

    the afterglow: amazing.

in a few days or something i'll probably come up with words to describe it... but for now, i'm just savoring.

OH MY GOD, that is all I can say right now, I just got back from seeing it and it was freaking amazing.

I suggest changing any plans you had tomorrow (or tonight) to go see it, I went in with high expetations and they were more than satisfied.
The things that went on in this movie defy explaination. And to whoever thought Uma couldn't use a sword you've got another thing comming.

Tarantino does it again 11/10 rating.

I actually thought the poster looked kinda lame. Well, I'll give it a shot when it gets released here in Hong Kong which is in about....... 1 1/2 weeks.............

OMG³³ (yes thats to the thirtythird power)

I cant possibly do justice to the movie by saying how great it was. Drop what you're doing and go, take all your friends and enemies. Take your pets..... take anything with eyes, this movie is well worth it.
  • Smoke_NovaSmoke_Nova Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8697Members
It's a Quentin Tarantino movie, of course the marketing sucked, it's an R film.

However, one should note that 200 gallons of fake blood were used in the filming of this.

and you should see it just for the last swordfight.

Meh, Tarantino's name alone is enough to make me want to see this.

    Going later tonight, can't wait.

Basically ignore all comercials for this movie, and just go see it, there's a reason the comercials for it suck, and when you see it you'll know why.

it IS kinda sad that the only good preview/trailer was that quicktime one. all the TV ones suck.

    also...

    well-stated by the NY times:

QUOTE (NYTimes @ Oct 10)

In parts of "Pulp Fiction" (1994) and in his last picture, "Jackie Brown" (1997), Mr. Tarantino seemed to be using the action-exploitation formulas of which he is so enamored as stepping stones toward an exploration of plausible characters and authentic emotions. Now, it seems, his interests have swung in the opposite direction, and he has immersed himself, his characters and his audience in a highly artificial world, a looking-glass universe that reflects nothing beyond his own cinematic obsessions. How much you like "Kill Bill," ... will probably depend on the extent to which you share those obsessions, on how much of a taste you have for the synthetic fusion cuisine that the director has cooked up.

so basically (and i speak from experience also), the movie is VERY heavy with tarantino quirk. so if you like him, you'll like the movie.

I disagree I think he actually took a step back from a lot of his humor and made a more geniuily deep movie, either way it is really good and well worth going to see at making up you own mind dontcha think?

It's not so much of a parody as an acknowledgement, I think a few people kept laughing when there wasn't a joke, but either way it's an aweseome flick.

The movie struck me as a sort of live-action parody of Ninja Scroll and other anime films. It's got great action, and a few laughs if you understand the parody (if you don't, you'll probably be puking, not laughing).

i don't think i said anything about humor... although some parts were fookenilarious.

but yeah, i acknowledge that it is a pretty serious movie on the inside. you have to think past the hyperawesome aspects to the subtleties.

by QUIRK i meant the tarantino charm, the style, the techniques... and also his personal tastes. c'mon.. SONNY CHIBA? in QUENTIN TARANTINO'S "cool" film? you saw em, D.

Oh yeah. Uma Thurman's character was based off of a comic book character and so mr. Tarantino manages to keep the comic booky feel. A lot more then any other kinda comic book movie.
  • ZigZig ...I am Captain Planet! Join Date: 2002-10-23 Member: 1576Members
i thought she was a character based on "The Bride", a character in-turn made by Q & U.

....which tarantino explained to stand for Quentin and Uma.
  • Smoke_NovaSmoke_Nova Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8697Members
Think of what Uma Thurman's character name was.

    It's also very comic-booky sounding.
