hehe np, cookie got a free renderer called cinema4d, but when i dled it it told me that i needed cd's <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
i think ive fixed the smoothing groups now thnx to maus's tutorial <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

As has been mentioned Cinema4DCE can produce some very nice renders, get it on the coverdisk of this months 3D World magazine. Free ( well, sorta..) , legal, easy to use, great results, keep away from the area shadows button unless you have a very fast system though.. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

a)Del mentioned POV-Ray, which can produce great stuff, personally I found it a little baffling to set up. Maybe I'm just thick.
b)Blender3d has a pretty decent renderer, but most people find the interface confusing and weird, also the file formats are very restrictive.
c)OpenFX has rendering capability.
d)Wings3d has a very basic openGL renderer, but you can install Yafray as a plugin, which is a lot better.
Personally I'll be sticking with C4D until I get a comp that can run XSI..
