My marine concept art...

Geistregen marine :>
im going to do 1 more ... which will be the heavy response unit :>

my idea for this is that top level players in-game (decided by server/score system...e.g 3 top marine players)
get to select the Geistregen Type

so u can play in a slightly different style and your commander can use you in other ways... like your personal teleport system...

just like how the NS-world stories go :

A group of marines are stranded in a hive room, attacked on all sides after failing to spot the ambush.

The commander selects the 3 best marines on his team and 'evolves' them to the Geistregen class. The research for Geistregen has been done, and the 3 new player models are seen.

They boast faster speed than the normal Frontiersmen, but the drawback is less armour/hp. They have no need for jump-packs.

The commander selects a warp point on the map and the selected geistregen see a 3 second countdown infront of their HUD.

Teleport succesful, Three geistregen stand heroically around their comrades, helping to cover their escape. They are a hit and run type unti, and should be used accordingly :>

Cool, but looks a little too traditional. No crazy ultralight ultrastrong body armour, HUD, stuff like the current one has

it looks very good but i dont like the look of the gas mask! it does sorta suit the model but i dont really like it!

erm... k besides the fact its traditional...

Ginger what do u mean u dislike the look of the gas mask
u want it more high tech, is that it? >:]

cause its modelled fairly closely to the current standard isreali/US NBC overgear system. i just gave it extra small filters , 2 on each side :>

pls tell me so i can change it accordingly to fit my next concept k!

Some sort of clear, thin layer of ultra-hard plastic as a face plate would probably be better than the current look. Not only would it make it look sleeker, but it would also give the marine better visability.

I'd also make the armor more pronounced, maybe an abdominal plate, or series of plates, cover up your liver and stuff ...

Maybe also make the pants a little less baggy, with another plate or two of armor around the thigh...

Overall though, it looks good, but i think hte gas mask makes it a litle more WW1-esq...

He looks spookily like something out of Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Perhaps thigh-pads or something? His torso and legs look somewhat unprotected (unless, of course, there's something under the fabric).

    lol ok... got it.

but i would like to re-enforce some of my ideas though :>

as the first generation concept, and cause the geistregen happen to be Fast-deployment and fast moving units, they should be given less armour accordingly. and i also added the point where priority parts of the body are given protection, such as the heart and upper torso. the shins and shoulders, ESPECIALLY the head.

and he does NOT have that low visibility as compared to the TSA standard mono-eye piece (robocop piece), i feel :/ but im considering the full-face plate idea ..
    __

i think i forgot to mention the point that the Geistregen are immune to spore attacks and chemicals... only kinetic attacks. so only spikes, omb explosions, and webbing can 'hurt' them. Thats why they look so much like NBC warfare troopers :>

k ill try to incorporate all that other stuff you guys/gals said into my heavy response unit later!

    heavy response unit gear:

    Phantom Marine

His gear is all made up of the same materials as the TSA frontiersmen. Ultralight, and ultra tough. His helmet and mask are a one-piece. Fast-access combat knife to his left, and beam light to his right. Thigh pads at the side-front for more protection(researched from real-life ballistic armour >:] hehe )

Abdominal plate and groin guard. (a must, i noticed.)

His backpack is also in the same TSA-standard armour material. since i cant colour well enough... ill have to explain. His eyes are the same blue as the TSA frontiersmen.. they have an internal HUD and boast more visibility than TSA F-men standard.

He is generally slower than the standard F-men cause of added bulk and armour.

    comments please!

Hehe I see we have a fellow otaku here, Jin-Roh was alright I guess but the Wolf Brigade were tight! I also have a great cosplaying, lemme see if I can find it.

    lol eh?

yes i love animation too, and i have watched Jin-Roh: the wolf brigade.

They rock, but have nothing to do with my design. are u sure u replied in the correct thread?

only the shoulder pads were probably reminicient of Jin-Roh's panzer gear. But trust me thats not where i got the design from. besides, they are too short and stubby. I got it from a Zaku fround type idea from gundam :>

other than that, i hope ya all like him!

thanks for the nice comments so far!

I think the only problem with this currently is that there isn't a planned 'class' type system at all. Plus, the commander could be a llama and just choose the worst players, and etc.

Yeah, my mistake I don't watch Gundam that much so right away I thought it was a Wolf Brigade Unit. A Wolf Brigade unit looks a lot like a Zaku.

    >:] okok so subconciously MAYBE i used the Wolf Brigades panzer gear idea a little... but its only the shoulderpads cmon!!!! :>

but whats important is not whether im an Otaku :> (...i am a newbie one...) but how you like my designs :>

so pls comment next time on the design and concept!!! Thanks!

You first pic seems to have a bit too little armor, maybe you can give him some arm pads and his helm looks like a cap. Your 2nd pics looks fine except for the helmet it looks plain and seem to be made from a pot. You might need a better looking visior/mask, the ones you drawn for both first and 2nd pic looks generic. However, the body armor looks excellent for the 2nd pic.

Actually, think the angular-ity of #2 makes it look like a chiseled, mean, lean, fighting machine...

Exactly what a heavy response unit is meant to look like.

    Nice job!

Nicely done. If you wanted to take it a step farther add some shading/midtones/highlight. As far as design only thing which seems odd to me is the easy access knife. I'd say that's a bad spot for it. Strapping it to a belt and or leg would seem more practical to me. Then put a second light where that was and the design would be more balanced. Technically it would be better for the solider as now he could have a much wider scope. Anyway, good job.
  • RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
I don't agree with you, ChyChsco. I think it's a very useful place where the knife is. You can just grab it and slash right down... But I think you're right, the helmet isn't so practical... the marines seems not to need gas-mask-thingies and i think the helmet looks too much like a gas-mask. Make it smoother, exspecially the top, than it doesn't look any longer like some futuristic WII-Soldier...

Anyways, the design is GREAT, and the only problem i have is the helmet (see above...) Perhaps you can add some attachments...

joking werent you guys planing on a vote down system for the commanders??
  • UkiTakuMukiUkiTakuMuki Join Date: 2002-08-13 Member: 1141Members
thanks for the comments guys :> im glad some of you noticed my knife concept!
    ---------------------------------
i personally felt that giving him a full-face helmet will be good because all along the TSA has been fighting aliens and stuff, doesn't that give them a right to exercise some hygiene?! its worse than entering a fallout zone... isnt it?

think about it.. i certainly did!

well thats how i felt about it and ur all welcome to flame in my thread about why TSA marines have a armadillo-shaped plating over their heads and a tiny visor slit ver their eyes that glows blue. :>

anyway i hate to make a whole new thread on why marines don't have classes and im sure its been mentioned before (YES, i made a topic search :>)

but i still hope that in releases to come classes for marines will be implemented, and the weapon choice is dictated by that class system, and nothing more.

IMO, it makes it a hell of a lot more RTS-ish if ya ask me :> (stereotyped RTS.... very little micromanagement&#33

    yah? so pls comment somemore!

    allright!

new update with new refined helmets:

yes, the bucket-top standard that has been used since medieval times remains, cause i like it! :> also, it helps liquid run off the sides. utility over aesthetics, always!

comment on the GEISTREGEN types ok?!
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
GEISTREGEN TYPE II : i modelled it over modern fighter pilots' helmets. the visor can retract into the forehead storage/impact shield. it has a holographic display at high resolution and 12x optical zoom capability. At the base of the helmet is a cushion zone, like sea-divers' gear. Fully contained life support if hooked to a oxygen supply system.

oxygen tubes can connect to the back and it has an onboard heads up display(HUD) and is TSA standard polymer armour. (like the standard marines 'green shells&#39

  • JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization
Geez, man..The first one, I percieve as more of the Scientist Response Team member, the second guy seems like a more heavy assault type unit, in a division with more funding than our underdog TSA buddies, and the last guy..he seems like he would be a pilot in a fighter/Troop Transport craft. Very nice, Very interesting, very inspiring.
  • UkiTakuMukiUkiTakuMuki Join Date: 2002-08-13 Member: 1141Members
    glad u all like type 2 :>

so how do u think he would fit into NS's universe?

    as a pilot/airborne/spaceborne unit?

im planning a dropship/carrier craft for the geistregen.
going to be modelled in 3d.

yeah, they are a heavily funded special operations outfit :> cool eh! nyehehehehe ^o^

aero pilot as it is...you should bolt on some light plating and a flexible collar for an aero-space helmet...i could offer some vehicle designs...> where does Geistregen come from? Geistregen is a name i cooked up... Geist is Ghost in German, and Regen is Rain in German too.

put two and two together: Ghost Rain (Ghostly Rain)

The soldiers are dubbed Phantoms as a result. :>

oh. i have made a vehicle design for the Geistregen... ill post some screens later.
  • UkiTakuMukiUkiTakuMuki Join Date: 2002-08-13 Member: 1141Members
    the Phantom's dropcarrier :

its a low poly model.. only 300+ polygons. that should give u a good idea how it looks like.

the carrier bay is what i haven't finished yet. i have planned out a nice frame for the drop-bay...

    comments as usual pls! :>
