[mreq] "simplified Skulk"

BeastBeast Armonkyi Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15731Members, Constellation

check inside.
OK I'm going to start making a superskulk plushie, and to help make it, I'm going to use one of those 3d paper net program thignies. Unfortunately, the default skulk model is well, very bumpy and stuff. So the program slices it into about 500 peices, which makes near impossible paper model making, and also wouldn't be any good for making a superskulk plushie.
Hense, I am in need of a "simplified" skulk model. Pref with the same skin.Basically, The model needs to be less random, and much more regular and smooth. It is advisable to model it with the mouth open also. The model would not be for hl, but for a paper net program - bear this in mind :o.
I would be greatful if anyone could make such a model

Thanks for reading.

Thing is, to simplify it, it works both ways:
increase poly count for smoother curves, and it uses less "peices" for the paper net.
decrease poycount and it uses less peices anyway.

However, I'd advise going with the higher poly way, making the bits less angled and so on, then the paper model maker thingy can do it correctly O-o

Mainly for myself, and for the pictures.
However if maybe enough people want them, I might be able to make a few "clones" and send them to donation thingy (constacantremeberthespelling) to sell or something... I don't know.

Here it is. It's in 3DS format. You'll need the original skulk skin as well, but that's easy to get. ;)

Better than the default but still room for improvement I think.

Ok this might help clarify a few things:
The end result of this model is a paper net which could be used to make a "fabric" net to make a superskulk plushie. Hense the net needs to be as simple as possible, with as few peices as possible.

Thefore, this means that the model needed for such a task would need to be "simplified" so as there are only, say, 5 parts to it.

Recommendations so far:
-Make a "smoother" skulk model, removing all tendrils and simplifying the structure a lot
-Make sure the limbs/legs/mouth etc are positioned so that every face of the model can be seen.
-Remove the teeth and small details. they will only cause problems
-Copy/paste the model horizontally, so the left half is identical to the right (stops the paper net program getting confused)

Thank you for your help. With some luck (and help), the superskulk plushie may see existance this weekend, and these forums will be "full" of pictures of it

So far I will only be making the one. I may make clones, but said clones would not be sold directly by me; I would "send them to flayra" or something for him to sell/auction/eat/use for world domination/play with/act out balance changes..

After plushie superskulk, plushie ferai may come next

Truly, I could ask my collegue, who has a large variety of printers (including fabric printers), to print me out a skulk to make a plushy from.

Ok don't bother any more. the program I am using is despite my best hopes, a peice of utter steaming dog poo. I tried simple models and it messed them up. It's just stupid.

So it looks like superskulk plushie will be a long while off yet, unless someone can help get me a USABLE fabric net.... :/
• RPG_JssmfulhudRPG_Jssmfulhud Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4006Members
Yes, I tried it and thought it was poo too... You really got to have specifically designed models for this... Low poly ones and still it could get messed up... A shame really.

What a shame...if someone made one, I would pay any price for it...
