Posted from the byoc!
- DAY 1 -

There is a 3K cap on net connections here, so I cannot upload any pics till I get back home Monday. Don't worry, I will have pics ;)In the meantime, check out QuakeCon's Web Site and also here

its great here at quakecon!!!! the very first day the byoc is full though, which is bad. there are people who had reserved spots and they can't get in, and its only thursday. gonna be a LOT of people ###### off friday and saturday. a lot. glad I came in wednesday...

overall everybody seems really nice and friendly, as usual. there are a LOT of first-timers here this year, probably mostly because of DOOM 3.

Speaking of DOOM III, as you may have heard the booth they had at E3 is also at qcon! The demonstration is mostly the same demo they showed at E3 but a little bit more extra footage, not really noticible though. One part there's a fat zombie that gets shot at the top of the stairs, and he tumbles down realistically, showing off the beauty of the game's physics engine. more spots show things like barrels tumbling and bouncing etc.

The sound was perhaps the best part. the booth was *LOUD* inside. very loud. very very awesome sound effects. all i can say to describe it is "wow".

lets see what else is happening? Friend of mine won a 9700 card! The lucky #######.

There was a lot of mod people here, mostly from the Quake 3 scene understandably. There was an hour and a half long mod roundtable though, which is always very cool, where we talked about mod development stuff. Not howtos, but what we as developers think of it, where we think its going, what are some things wrong with the scene, etc, and that is kinda universal regardless of engine ;) Near the end Grame Divine (or however you spell his name heh) showed up and told us a thing or two about a (as far as i know) unannounced q3 point release w/ engine enhancements and integraded punkbuster (i bet valve is kicking themselves for not picking that one up heh), as well as giving us some DOOM III editing tidbits :D

We, my friend Stephen (Colquhoun, you don't know him), and I found a local gas station that sells Bawls. Woot to that. Got their entire stock, which sadly was only 8 bottles heh.

Lie is good when here at quakecon though. There's also a TON of variety here this year as opposed to last year. in fact, there realatively isn't that much quake compared to previous years. Quite a bit of Warcraft 3, I played a 12 player game! 6v6, INSANE!!! mega fun though. Also lots of people playing RtCW, Reaction (met those mods guys too, great people), even some neverwinter nights mp campaign.

Then there's peopel sittin around watching DVD's and stuff, always fun. But now the entire byoc is on headphones, or at least is supposed to be, because there was so much power consumption. I still say its not because of speakers, but rather because now every 1 out of 5 cases has a friggin neon light and 15 fans in it, powered by 500 watt power supplies, but who am I to say...

I was finally allowed onto the l33t balcony this year, as now i got friends with connections. actually same old friends, but they are now staff at qcon heh. If you don't know, don't ask. its a l33t thing ;)

I'd love to type more out to you guys, but I'll have to wait till later. Right now Colquhoun is challenging my q3 Gauntlet skillz. I'm the gauntlet masta! Gonna take him to school!
