<div class="IPBDescription">A lot more info on what NSD is/will be.</div> <span style='font-size:17pt;line-height:100%'><a href='http://www.nsdraft.com' target='_blank'>www.nsdraft.com</a></span>

I've noticed a lot of confusion since I've became admin for NSD, on how it will work, why it would work, it's purpose, etc.

So I decided to help clarify things a tad, and to do so I wrote this <a href='http://www.commchair.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=8' target='_blank'>cool essay.</a>

If you like the whole idea of what NSD is, then by all means, please stop by #nsdraft on gamesnet.net and idle there. Showing your support by idling means a lot to us.

If you have questions, concerns, and other stuff regarding NSD and the essay I wrote on it, then please respond about it here.

This is a good place to talk about it all.

I still don't understand the specifics of how new, unheard of players will be ranked and tossed into the mix. Although, perhaps there are none yet? Or maybe I just need to read 900 posts from the other thread to figure it out?

    Basically, I crave details.

Did you check out the FAQ? That should give enough of the basics.

An excellent idea, sir. The clan scene is indeed suffering recently, and this seems a superb way to give it a needed boost.

Good luck in getting it organised and I shall see you on NSD.

TIP: don't make people go to the IRC chat room just to find the link to the FAQ.

    <b>NSDraft FAQ:</b> <a href='http://www.unfit.org/~blitz/FAQ.html' target='_blank'>http://www.unfit.org/~blitz/FAQ.html</a>

I'm tired of people asking others to idle in IRC chatrooms. It feels like a popularity contest. Yuk.

This may sound nitpicky, but the essay could use a quick proofreading. I think it's worth it because the fact that someone has taken care to do little things like proofread an essay speaks volumes about how the league as a whole will be run.

p.s.: if you've got a .doc of that sitting around, I can proof it for you.

I just went back and fixed some glaring errors. If you see anymore, just PM me with a heads up and I'll change them. I'll do some more extensive changes when I get some more sleep. I tried to get people to proofread it when I orginally wrote it, but the other NSD admins aren't really writers, and some others I wanted to read this live on the other side of the Alantic.

i would go for atleast 12 people per team, there will be lots of inactives and having only 8 people per team will make the games REALLY small.
  • PseudoKnightPseudoKnight Join Date: 2002-06-18 Member: 791Members
Typical clan matches are 6v6, so it's very reasonable to have 8-player teams.
  • LastLast Join Date: 2003-10-06 Member: 21463Members
I doubt you'd ever have 8 active players. The problem is people will go inactive and it turns out only half will be active. I agree with zoja, 10+ would be way better.

The problem with this is that not everyone gets to play. And, if for some reason a match turns out to be only have 6, and there are 12 player teams, that means half the team has to sit out...? Fun..!

I'll consider 9 or 10. Although, if matches were held 2 times a week, a larger teamsize would be a lot more helpful...

The point of getting others to idle in #nsdraft is to see how much support we can get for this idea. But TY for thinking that it was something as low as that, it doesn't make us look very good.

I'm not affiliated in anyway with this, but last I heard was its for people who will be playing on american servers.

Whether that means americans or not depends on the personal preference of the players. However I would assume that english would be a must.
  • kavasakavasa Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11889Members, Constellation
Since I'm not an NSD admin, take this with a grain of salt, but:
I would say Europeans would probably be welcome to play. You'd have to realize, though, that you'd be playing on American servers all the time, and pinging at least 150. So, it will probably self-select to mostly Americans.

Forlorn, I'll work on that proof when I've got some free time (at work probably, ironically enough). Due to weird stylistic things, there are actually a number of whole-paragraph revisions, and those take a while. They are all, of course, mere suggestions.

While I LOVE the idea of nsdraft, I would like to argue for including the trading of players, make it really have like... a sports like feel to it? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Lol, it just complicates it dude... how can you put a value to players you don't even know?

We need stats on them. What I'm thinking of doing is at the end of each season, every person in every team gets to vote on each of their teammates, on categories such as:
(all on a scale of 1-10)

    - Aim
    - Communication
    - Coopiration
    - Movement ability
    - Intellegence
    - Overall Skill(this is an average for the above categories)

    And for the comms:

    - Med/Ammo Spam
    - Build orders
    - Intellegence (Telling where marines must go, what to do)
    - Communication
    - Overall Efficiency(this is an average for the above categories)

After the end of each season, all the values are averaged together with all the old seasons, so perhaps after 1-2 seasons I'll explore the idea of trading.

The only real tough part is selecting the team leader's. These guys may or may not be your comm. These guys will only pick out teams. They won't nessesarly be strategiests, or even good players themselves. Basically, they will be responsible for picking out a roster at the begaining of a season, and reporting the results of matches.

8 players is fine. If 3 are unavailable, due to the casual nature of this league I would assume that ringers are acceptable?

You look at the player playing or you go by reputation (word of mouth). I think trading is a great idea, even for the first season. Just like starting picks, it's up to the team leader to make the appropriate choice. I don't see how it's any different.

No ringers allowed. This part will be like CAL; if ringers were allowed, you'd see majorly stacked teams.

Easy. Team #1 wants to win. They have 3 HAM members on it. They proceed to tell everyone on their team they shouldn't play. They then don't have enough. They get 3 other HAM's to ring for them...

    It's it obvious?

No, you can't make an entire set of rules allowing 'some' ringers or not some ringers. No set of rules on planet earth could cover every circumstance you ask for. In fact, what you ask for is downright insane, if not impossible. Either you allow ringers, which would defeat the purpose of a team, or you don't allow ringers, the right thing to do.
