Say hello to my little friend

Scarface Anniversary Edition has been released, and OMG it pwns.

For those of you who have never seen Scarface, run to your local video store and pick this puppy up, as it is one of the greatest films ever made.

For those who have, you'll be pleased to know that the movie has fully remastered audio and video, so no longer does the DVD look like it was recorded off somebody's dubbed VHS tape. Now you can see Tony Montana in all his rise the top (and fall from it) in vivid, sharp coloring.

For the Scarface fanatics (like me), you'll be pleased to know that the DVD also contains 3 pretty good shorts on the making of the movie, as well as some crappy deleted scenes you'll be glad never made it into the movie (as they are crap), and a few other things. One of the more interesting features is on the TV version of Scarface, which basically was explaining how they went about dubbing over the 160 some uses of the F word as well as cutting all the violence, and they showed many scenes with Before (movie) and After (tv) versions. Makes you appreciate the movie a lot more to see the original vision of the director uncensored.

And for the rich Scarface fanatic (not me) there is a Special Collector's Edition that has the original 1934 Scarface movie on DVD as well as a gold Tony Montana money clip, in addition to the crap in the regular Anniversary Edition.

I wanted to see this, but never got around too. Haven't seen anything with Pacino in it. I guess I'll rent it next weekend.

I would if I could, but there lies the problem. I can't drive and I know my mom won't take me. Isn't this movie about drug dealers, or something?

Definately R. In fact the movie almost had an X rating because of the percieved Violence, but really it leaves a lot of the violent parts up to the imagination, so you don't really know exactly what happened. Just a small part of the cinematic genius of the director.

I dont know what's better....Scarface or The Godfather series?
  • DOOManiacDOOManiac Worst. Critic. Ever. Join Date: 2002-04-17 Member: 462Members, NS1 Playtester
    Definately Scarface.

I mean yeah, The Godfather is The Godfather... And Al Pachino rocked in that too. But its a bit more slow pace and is (in some spots) plain boring.

Scarface pwns meh. Godfather 2nd place though.

okay movie though - Drugs, sex and violence - thats the whole movie.

Godfather pwnz, i'd have to say its better.

Being as I've lived in miami my whole life (specifically miami beach) and can recognize every locale shot in the movie, yes, scarface owns me

Especially since over half the movie was shot in LA :P

Seriously, they were going to shoot it in Miami, but apparently some of the Cuban community thought they were somehow connected to Castro, and they ran them out of town w/ death threats and etc. (I found this out from the documentary on the DVD)

Hehe, well I'm not referring to EVERY single scene, mostly just the major locations present.
For example, riding down south beach before meeting the columbians. Freedom town underneath i-95 by downtown. Biscayne bay for the phone conversation after mom's. In back of the hotel (the name escapes me at the moment, but which is an actual hotel still in existence in miami beach) where he does hit tongue trick . Coconut grove for manolo's house. The key locations for example i can all vouch for as being located right within 20 minutes of me

This is one of the scenes specifically mentioned on the documentary that was in fact filmed in LA. That's an LA freeway you're seeing, not Miami. They talked for a few minutes about how they had to use a crane shot to pan the camera in just right to make it so you couldn't see any of the LA buildings so that people wouldn't recognize it as LA and kill the immersion.

But hey, gotta give them credit though, as quite obviously they pulled it off. :D

Like the buildings are the exact same, maybe they're referring to underneath the expressway where the people are?
Cuz the above part is definitely miami. I'll take some pics on my way back from campus in the afternoon, but it won't be the same, ya really have to be familiar with the area to know it

Agreed. I heard the DVD quality was great, but the 2nd disc near useless with mediocre extras.

Nope, that whole bit was shot in LA. Sorry man, you'll just have to accept the fact that they did their job really well. ;)
