The Computer I Made...
<div class="IPBDescription">Oh noes!</div> (I put this in off-topic cuz it's not NS related, <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )
Okay, I made my computer about 3 weeks ago. Here are the specs:
512mb SDRAM (motherboard can use ddr too)
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
17 inch monitor
80 gig harddrive, 8mb buffer, 7200 rpm
2.4ghz cpu (pentium 4)
PC Chips m922lr motherboard
Okay, once I was finished making it, it ran ALRIGHT...not as good as I thought. Anyways, when I installed windows on it, it must have had an error because it wasn't detecting my sound card, so, I decide to reformat. Half way thru reformat, the power goes out. Luckily, everything is plugged into a surge protector! Well I thought I would be lucky...
So, After the power goes out, I turn the computer back on...NO DISPLAY ON MY MONITOR! I first check to see if my monitor is broken...nope. Then I test the agp slot to see if the light underneath it turns on when a vid card is in it...works fine. Then, I try the video card on my old computer...everything is fine.
Okay now I'm ****. I have to get my old computer and set it all back up....I hit the button to turn it on.....omg h4x no display! So i get **** and practically rebuild the whole old computer by taking everything out and then puting everything back in. Woohoo it works...BTW, this was after not having a computer for 3 weeks!
In a nut shell....What do you guys think is wrong with the computer I made? I was thinking about bringing to a computer place but they charge 40 dollars to hold it for us, then like 30 dollars an hour if it is hardware and 60 dollars an hour for software.
I am definately considering all the parts from my computer on like....ebay <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> har har har...Well everything but the hard drive...Would you guys recommend ebay for selling computer parts?

It'd still be a tall order to get it to work though. Most people say they will make their own computers without knowing what they are getting in. You really have to know what you're doing to build a computer from scratch, even though granted, the only way to really know what you're doing is to try to build one from scratch if you didn't know how.
It's a good learning experience though. You don't really know a computer inside out unless you've built one. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I would know. I build the one I'm using now.

I've made a couple other computers (like this one im on) and the one that ISNT working is the only computer that has given me trouble....And the only pentium computer I've tried to make...hmmmm <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
That means the vid card is fine.
Does that monitor work on your old computer?
If thats fine, you would most likely need to plug the monitor back into the default monitor jack and try that.
Ive had my crap mess up and default to the other monitor jack, and go back to windows, reset to geforce, and reboot.
And I always told my friends I hated xp because it never used my sound card properly.
I tried reinstalling xp a few months later, and same cd, but totally diff setup and installation process. Very odd. Sound card worked fine too.
Ive used the same cd on about 5 diff comps, and Its always 1 of 2 different setups. Its weird as hell.
T3h hax4!
