Need a program
Does anyone know of any good programs that let you play and CONVERT .UMX audio files to .mp3 or .wav format?
technically, it is illegal to convert them, as the .umx format is copyrighted by Epic. HOWEVER; if you want to listen to the music... then you can, though winamp. clicky clicky
anyone with any brains about them could *cough* maybe convert them for themselves using an appropriate mp3 output plugin... not that i'm suggesting you do that or anything.
If it's illegal to convert them, how come the UTEditor can do it? Yep, UTEditor (the mapping program, not sure it's called that, ships with UT) can convert .umx files to ScreamTracker modules (.s3m). Those can be played by Winamp off the bat. It might be illegal to use DeliPlayer's streamrecorder (site seems to be down at the moment of writing, should be back up soon) to convert them to .wav after that, so I'm not gonna suggest you do that.
