<div class="IPBDescription">I dont know what to put in my map.ideas?</div>hey, im rather new to mapping, about a month. ive learnded how to use worldcraft and ive read the ns mapping guidelines n all so i was wondering if any of you guys/girls could give me some ideas as to the basis of the level and some things to implement into it. if I find that i dont know how to do something that youve asked i might email you and ask you how to do it, if i like it of course. just search for Mapping Idea and you find tons of Ideas
* Mining facility. Starts at the cave mouth and splits off in 3 directions, maybe starting with lanterns and machinery sitting around, and glowing crystals on the walls towards the back.
* Enterprise-esque starship, with the command center in the ship's bridge (a rather large bridge). A holodeck with a hive in it (think of some outrageous setting), a reactor, and an infested banquet hall.
* Okay, I lied. I can only think of two.
a crashed ship... not that original
a crashed ship that's upside down.... more original
a crashed ship, upside down, with part of it submerged underwater... now that's something that you can go nutz with bizzare things
imagine...walking on the ceiling, seeing things bolted to the "roof"/floor, and other things fallen on the "floor"/celing... having to swim a short distance underwater to get to a hive if you don't have jet packs researched (scary...) seeing stairs above, but using pipes as ramps and stairwells to get "down" to the reactor chamber to clear out a hive. a cut hole in the "top"/bottom of the ship where your squad begins it's invasion....
so much you can do...

Maps where everyone is tiny are mucho fun if they are made right and not just shoved into a mod (the CS rats where the one team has a HUGE advantage over the one in the fridge for example). Make one of those, they are great and easy to make because they are just common things.. not much imagination required compared to *making* up a strage place from scratch.
Upside-down spaceship: Although that's a cool idea, the lights would all be shining on the "ceiling". That would be unfair for aliens I think. A half-sunken ship would be great, though.
Well what good are rats maps?
They don't belong in HLDM, that game is about random enemies fighting in military camps and labs in the desert.
They don't belong in TFC, that game is about simple bases with a *very* light military feel. Also, alot of symmetry.
They don't belong in CS, that game is about realism.
Oh cmon, they are *fun*.. I don't care if you scan blueprints from the concept of the Aliens movie and replicate it exactly for the absolute PERFECT ambiance and atmosphere for NS *EVER*.. If a map is more fun than that, I will play the fun map.
Every mod has light-hearted fun maps.
how would lights shining on the "ceiling" give the aliens an unfair advantage? If you look at most of the maps that are being judge for offical inclusion, all parts of a room are lit to a certain degree- walls, floors, ceiling, and some even have floor lights. no advantage/disadvantage, just a different perspective.
Besides I want to see all those bob players get vertigo when they forget that they're on the "ceiling" and try jumping. eheheheheh
2. A flagship type level.
3. A infested steel smelting factory (Ala Terminator 2)
4. A slaughtered outdoor base (with a few outdoor areas) on a stormy planet. >=)
5. A futuristic office building that has been infested.
6. A nuclear power plant.
7. A gravic generator facility.
8. A passenger spaceship.
9. City sewers.
10. The NS development team building. =)

a asteriod would be cool....or a series of asteroids to jump on...like in unreal 2 that one map....(played that one pretty fun)
