to yall who are always on
guys,
i know we have been getting a lot of "OMG CAN Y0u H3|p M# MAKEA MAP" threads.
I know its annoying, but dont just ridicule them.
If they have a question you can answer quickly like "what can i use to make a map?" give them a link, point them the right way. If they ask what is X error tell them give them a link to tommy's page. Dont just make fun of them for being new. keep in mind that many of tehm have no idea waht they are doing.
I know that the faq says dont ask questions about mapping not realted to ns, so feel free to let them know where they can get the kind of help they want. try and help them all go and become teh awesom mappers we all aspire to be.
In closing we were all new to this once so be patient and try to help.
any way i tried to spell well and do my grammar right but yuo know how i am with that stuff

I am sometimes making fun of n00bs. I do this when they obviously haven't tried the search function or read the forum 'readme' and when they are the tenth person overal or the second on the same day.
And yes, the guidelines say: Only NS related questions. I admit that I don't belong to the people who are always polite to people they don't know, but as long as I ocasionally call the people described above noobs or tell them that they wont have much luck with finishing a map if they ain't got the patience to search for something else than the 'new topic' button when they enter this forum I don't see anything wrong with my personal behaviour.
But if more people say that it is really unfair I can let it be of course

I admit i've been rather harsh to some people, but there's also something you must realise. If they break a forum rule and everyone ignores the fact they broke it, they're gonna break the rules again and again because nobody told them any different. While flaming or ridiculing them may be wrong (I know i've done it), it's better than just letting it slide time and time again.

So from now on, how about we help them, but also let them know they're at fault in one simple post, as opposed to the usual countless replies of flames and help.

So the solution is to provide a link to the faq describing not only it's statement of the forum rules but also the many useful links it contains, and if possible quoting the faq for a link that they could use to solve the problem? Sounds like a plan to me. At the least having one reply to these messages that gets the jobs done may keep them off the first page all the time, leaving more room for the nancy and screenshot threads.

some of the question are asked are quite ridiculous.
"how do I make a moving door?" - "how do I place a model in my map?"

the problem is that nobody seem to care about the forum-rules. they see a forum... "great, lets post something senseless."
another point that I cant understand: this people seem to start mapping because of the cool stuffe they saw in the officials. THIS IS CRUEL!
this is my 5th year of hl mapping and even with some experience it was super-hard to get the ns-mapping thing right. even if you know the basiscs of hl-mapping you have to read ns-mapping tutorials for 2 days ^^
and this people thing they can achieve a decent map only by some questions asked, not reading ANY tutorials... MUH!
I think Im never polite to those people, I admit that, although Im super-friendly in reallife. btw: my attitude to this people cant be explained correctly with some words in a foreign language anyway XD

I think i only asked 1 or 2 questions since i started mapping back in 98.
I learned everything on my own simply by reading tuts and trying stuff on my own.
I hate relying on other people for mapping stuff. I just try stuff before i give up and start looking for help.

I dont post here regularly but I do read this forum on a daily basis and I've been pretty disgusted lately with the newbies posting their questions. I've been mapping for about 6 months and I'm not the greatest mapper but I've never posted 1 question on this forum. Not because I havent had lots of questions, but because every single question that I've had has already been answered numerous times on this forum. These people are lazy and what they dont realize is that not only are they wasting all the kind people's time who post here, but writing a post and waiting for hours or days when the answer is already freely available, theyre wasting their own time too. I think you should flame them AND provide a link to help them along, so they at least realize that this forum isnt their personal mapping help forum.

Well, if some of you hadn't noticed, we now have a newbie mapping forum, so HOPEFULLY all nub-like mapping questions will be directed there.

We created that forum for just that purpose. So if you see someone who still has their training wheels on, give 'em a friendly push - preferably *not* into traffic. (;

heh actually just decided to start making a co_map by myself last weekend, never mapped before in my life, but after playing co_pulse and watching all thes emaps in progress over this last year have inspired me to try. I think its great for their to be a place for us "newbies" I am usually pretty independant, and can find out stuff on my own, but i know there will be a time when i will want to know how to do something. This is great tho. gj @ mods.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to make a newbie modeling forum and nip that one before it starts.
