For the past week or so, this title has been sitting on the shelf
in work taunting me... It knows I couldn't play it because it was
marked up as "NEW" but today was the day of reckoning. I wandered
into work and there it was... "Freedom Fighers" on the PlayStation2,
I glanced up at its sticker.... "PRE-OWNED". Yippee!
So I put the kettle on, make a few coffee's, pull my chair around to near the
t.v and fire up the PS2 and throw in the Freedom Fighters disc.
I skip the intro's and cut-scenes because i'm too keen to see what the actual gameplay
holds.
The game itself reminds me of 3 or different titles rolled into one. GTA, Brute Force,
Max Payne and Tenchu. 4 very different games but for some reason FF reminds me
of certain elements they contain.
You play a guy who must complete certain objectives in a world where Russia dominates.
They've hit Washington with a nuke or missle of some sort and the president is dead...
rather than go into turmoil or re-elect a suitable leader, the State's are being ruled by
Russians and groups of American Freedom Fighters keen on killing Russians.
So far so good.
What I like best about the game, is the odd reward system. If you can blow up
Gas Stations, Bridges and similar structures, you are rewarded with "CHARISMA".
The more Charisma you gain the more Rebels and Freedom Fighters you can recruit.
Apparently you can have "up to 12" Freedom Fighters following you and under your orders.
Thats another good point... the order system.
I was abit sceptical of it at first, how much freedom can 3 whole buttons provide?
Well quite a few apparently. Everything from "FALL BACK!" to "Go check that area and report
back!". Very cool, and very handy if you're low on ammo.
So anyway..... on to the PC version Demo.
It's practically identical to the PS2 version but with some aiming changes.
(Having a mouse to aim is MUCH better than the analogue sticks but the bullet
patterns tend to spray and go off target abit more).

Charisma awarding for blowing up a gas station.
"Seriously go look round that corner or i'll cap you... simple"
Yeah it is a fun game. The paths through the levels are bound to get
linear after 2/3 times through that area (you come back to certain area's
to complete certain tasks. For example I wandered round one area to find C4
and then went back to the previous area to use that C4 to blow up a bridge
to stop Russia supplies getting through.)
The first, second and third times through each level are always fun. There's plenty
to attack, blow up, hide behind and climb on.
But it's only a matter of time before you memorise it all.
KEY POINT: Good fun!
Not sure about the poly count on the models. up your screen resolution
and character details for smoother looks. (Although its not too important for me)

Me either, but I thought they'd try with a Console Game. Anyway, can you like wander around. Or do you always have a set mission?
