Whats The Cheapest Laptop?
<div class="IPBDescription">Need help picking one out</div> From what I can gather, Dells got the best prices.
If I want to be halflife-able, the inspiron 5100 seems best, having the radeon.
But im po'. So thats $1000. But if im looking to get the absolute cheapest, their inspiron 1100
is cheapest at 700. But then that standard no name video chipset, so I might as well not bother with
celeron 2.0 and prolly just find something 1.0ghz to 1.5.
Or does anyone know if games are still slightly playable with a celeron 2.0 with noname intel
video chipset?
And no Alienware suggestions.
We know theyre great, and the price is 4-5 months rent.

bear in mind that i am in britain so i'm talking pounds sterling. in the states or canada its prob about 320. euro members maybe a little over 500
Also $ Pentium > $ Celeron.
And ive checked ebay and I havent seen anything close to the specs you said for less than $1,200us.
Unless it was in the UK ebay
But playing on the move is going to cost you.
BTW, if all you want is HL playability, most of them will be OK. Don't expect miracles though, a cheap laptop won't have a good screen, won't have a lot of FPS and will have a short autonomy.
another idea might be to look in a computer mag and check out prices for individual hardware pieces. thats what i'm doin in my room. its cheaper than u would think as u can salvage most things from ur old pc
Prolly just standard apps and progs, surfing, school crap, and probably emulation at the most.
But if thats it, then the celeron 2.0 is a little to high than if Im only doing just that, but thats the lowest I can find with a decent price.
I find stuff half as powerful for $200-300 more than the dell.
People still value things at the price they paid for and obviously that doesnt hold true.
Its hard to accept, but I know my geforce2 that was $300 when it came out, is only $35 on pricewatch.
Runs HL/NS acceptably at 800x600. Plays DVDs fine, which is the main reason I bought it. The built-in wireless is nice for conventions and coffee shops. The widescreen is nice for running Visual Studio.NET
Obviously, I wouldn't buy an emachines product for a desktop, but the laptop had bafflingly good reviews, so I chanced it. Working out well so far.
1.5gHz P4
256 RAM
32 Video Card Memory (don't know which video card... forgot)
15" (I think) screen
So much more... I was quite jealous. It was an amazing deal <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Too bad that doesn't happen too often

Now that aint too bad. and since HP is same as compaq, they have the exact same model but officially HP for around $619.
I dont know if I could manage to find anything cheaper than this save for beating up a businessman on the train.
I plan to paint whatever laptop I decide to buy a nice bright neon orange with the HL2 logo on the top. Think it would be possible to fit a cold cathode and window into a laptop? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol sounds like one of those "fell off the truck deals", but really sounds like an awesome deal.
Then check ebay and see how stuff half as powerful is fetching 500-900.
Im sure if you camp long enough, youll find a deal.
But I did hardkore searching for 2-3 days and this is by far the best I could come up with.
I found brand new p3 1.3ghz laptops fetching for 1700.
Apparently they never drop the price from when they first come out.
But good luck if you go the ebay route.
Only thing decent I saw on their is some people selling their alienwares for less then the sites price.
