Ns As A Standalone Game.

<div class="IPBDescription">Well...?</div> I been thinking about NS + what is to come. Out of curiousity what does everyone think if NS was to become a standalone game.

Please dont flame just if you like the idea say why and if you dont say why. Pretty simple:

As Standalone: I feel that it would allow the dev members to fix many things. It would allow them to change the engine and make it to their liking. They could add alot of new objects and release a very nice game.

As a mod: Its free, its fun, alot easier then starting from a basic engine.

Well I know I would buy it, but I don't know if many other people would without a single-player mode.

only if they used the fact it wasn't using the outdated half-life engine anymore to make it more concrete (no getting stuck, models disappearing through ceilings, fixed hitboxes) and added a little more to it (more weapons, evolution choices, bigger more interactive maps and more of them XD )

but yeah... that'd be pretty cool and more enticing that savage <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

A single player mode would definately make it worth playing (I might buy it anyways to help Flay out). Reworking NS for the HL2 for release might be interesting, but I don't know how likely that is.

A mod called "Natural-Selection: SP" is being made right now, with no help from the current NS dev team, fully on their own use.

NS will not become a standalone product unless Flayra is hired on by VALVe, and even then, he would still have NS be a 100% free game as long as you have HL/HL2(if he decides to port/remake). He is dedicated to the mod community, and what they expect- free.

    Not to mention, sci-fi stuff doesn't sell well, so it'd be a waste <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Don't assume. Kthx.

Not at this point. The team would love to get more involved with VALVe, but there is no formal affiliation or arrangements at this time. VALVe does help the team from time to time with information about the SDK and the Half-life engine.

Will I ever have to pay for NS? Will we ever see NS on Steam?
Natural Selection will always be free. We are working with VALVe to get Natural Selection on Steam.

Actually, some of HL2's liscensing plans involve getting HL2 and any official HL2 mods that come out in the future for free, and I'm pretty sure that includes HL games and mods too.

Besides, making a once-free mod pay-only would be a poor business decision. One of the things that makes the mods fun is how easy it is to find a game to play. Going retail only would alienate plenty of players, reducing the chances of having a good game going, and it would probably also reduce the number of people who pay good money to host a server. Being free is part of the appeal, and they'd be better off charging for better servive/content/etc. instead of charging for the right to play it. Valve knows this, as is evident by their mod-supporting actions.

think back to dod. the whole comunity filled with noobs, and valve made sure that it could be used by 3yr olds, dod was a good game prior to 1.0. its realy bad now. you get idiots that cant work as a team. bad things happened to CS and there gona happen to DoD. dont let it hapen to NS.

Actually, Flay is looking for any kind of funding ($10k and up) to work on an NS retail.

I would love to see ns as a standalone, i'd definately buy it, hell i'd probably buy 2 copies, flay needs all the money he can get, maybe if he gets enough we could see hl2: ns, wishful thinking though.

Just send him the money. He'd get more that way than if you bought two copies ;/
