Is there no respectand kindness?!
Why do other people do these things? Why do they send viruses? And worms, spy bots etc.? I mean we all use the same system the same network and cable. When you get down to the bottom of it you may find that the internet is not democracy or autocratic but total anarchy.

In this virtual world so many of us live are lives in there are those with power, money and knowalge and those with none or less. Why prey on these people? Why not teach them? Do these gifted group of individuals who know how the internet works and all its programs just do these horrible things because they can? Or are companies without spines who lust for nothing but money hire them to do their unjust bidding?!

A timeless truth is that history will repeat itself again and again. The internet is almost a digital shadow of are cruelty to others and hatred and human evil.

We come here to escape are lives and to release are emotions. What we are doing is no different then dumping waste into a beautiful ocean. What was once a beautiful fertile land of information and communication has been swamped by ads, viruses and the like. Like a mirror to are own world, the internet is collapsing and over populating.

If you are someone who has the power to do harm on the internet, stop, think, and remember the time when you to were powerless and someone came and helped you. Instead of hurting try healing...

    Wow. Nice rant.

But seriously now- the reason why is because computer litterate people get **** off at someone, they make a virus, send it to a person they think doesn't know how to quarintine it, then they send it back, and to people they hate, and it just keeps going until it gets huge.

Either that, or some guy is a **** who wants to be a butthead.

But with spy-ware, there are several reasons: 1. Better idea of what consumers like. 2. Average Performance tests of Programs/Tools. 3. Easy pr0n access( )

As long as there is anonymity and the weakness of human nature, there will be little kindness on the internet. But do not despair, for all darkness, there is some light.
With all technology, there is the power to give and the power to destroy. It is this dichotomy and balance in which the world exists upon, and that is not all a bad thing. Truth be told, when the scales are set and the balance measured, the internet has come out as a better thing, and that's an encouraging thought for our future.

I had to do report writing for a uni assignment (grr grr grr grr) which happened to be on viruses. I managed to interview someone who writes them. It's a game to them. Honestly, do you think all the bad things in the world can be cured by saying "come on, people, that's not very nice. Think about what it would be like if it happened to you? Think of the cute little kitties and starving children!".

Indeed... they're simply the new breed of b******. The digital variety is no different than anyone else who finds enjoyment in causing others pain of any sort.

Companies who do spyware and other such programs are within the current law, but they're aware of what they're doing, and for them, it is a good source of information, no matter what it does to the end-user's computer.

Which is why I'm for legalizing offensive firewalls and such. Someone tries to hack you, they burn. It's simple.

--> And I for one am quite happy that the internet has no governmental structure. imagine another bush. a virtual one.

    --> stupidity = money

--> yes, the internet is a fair comparison to such memorable moments such as the gassing of the jews, the gassing of the kurds, the cruelty to animals, etc. (i hope irony is a know principle around here)

--> emotions over the internet? if you say so. and just because www.bonsaikittens.com isn't valuable information for you, doesn't mean it isn't valuable at all. at last check, the internet was not collapsing, and I fail to see the disadvantage of an overpopulated internet.

--> are you quoting a marvel comic? and besides, we need evil. no evil, no good.

True, without the comparison, there can be nothing but normal...

And even worse, without evil, who will all the wannabes and Goths model themselves after? I mean jeeze, can you imagine the world then?

-Liger, Chaotic Neutral. Evil is overrated, and overapplied.

but they're worse than the nobodies, they're the nobodies who think they're standing out.

But eh. To each their own, if they get some identity out of it, good for them.

I think hackers do it for fun and just to experiment to see how great their own abilities are.
Take for example one of the worms that was sent around with the message "Bill Gates fix windows and stop this from being possible, btw I love you sarah" or something like that

I would tend to disagree with your doom-and-gloom vision of the internet. Sure, there are some people who decide to be stupid, but they are in the minority, but the majority of people are very respectable and good-natured, especially to people that they have never even met. The internet is actually a very good example how anarchism is supposed to work.

Think of the P2P networks. In most P2P programs there is teh option to share nothing or very little or at a very slow speed, but yet a great many people (myself included) regularly give away their hard-earned precious bandwidth to everyone else. If everyone on the net were a-holes then P2P would have died out with napster.

anarchy=>decentralization of power=>unrestricted information flow=>education and positive growth (hopefully) or falling prey to the challenges that arise (virii, invasive advertising and the like)
i hope the internet stays mostly the way it is, as soon as you start to limit it too much, you would have to give power or authority to someone(some ethics should never be ignored though).
Most all of us in this community are computer savvy enough to recognize the threats when we see them, i'd hate to invoke social darwinism but the spyware type junk is only going to persist as long as ppl fall for it. stupidity/ignorance should be selected against, but this could happen by teaching others as you said... as for worms, virii and such, they are exactly like their real-world analogs. they thrive on the flaws in the system until the system catches up, they are short-lived and select against themselves in the long run. i wouldn't go as far to say that either are evil.
if there is anyplace where anarchy can work, it'll start on the internet...
