Just a thought
First,I know nothing has been said about NS Retail, except that Flay would like to take the concept and the world retail at some point. Everyone has been saying "Half life 2!!!!!". That would mean recoding commander mode, building, etc. Seems like a lot of work.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is, oddly enough considering its closness to NS, the Silverback Engine.

Yes, the very same engine that made Savage is available. Its a very nice enginge. I wouldn't mind seeing the next major incarnation of NS on that baby.
MMMmmmm.

Anyone know if the guys at S2games play NS at all? :-P

EDIT
And please nubs, don't try to be all 1447 and flame me. I KNOW nothing is offical. Its just fun speculation.
I'm not a nub child!

Actually Jammer, that sounds like a cool idea. Get NS off the dated HL engine that required a lot of "Hack" coding to get it to work and put it on a new engine that also came as an FPS/RTS (If Savage is the game I'm thinking of) so it wouldn't be nearly so much issues. Plus Marines could get new weapons!

only problem i see is that savage is in huge vaste landscapes, and NS is in small hallways and less small rooms :S

you can always remap the levels to small corridors and such.

To be honest I don't like this idea too much. I think one of them coolest parts of NS is that it DOES use the HL engine, I would hate to see NS go over to another engine because this one is half the reason its so special. And I also think thats why so many people are asking for a HL2 port... my 2¢

Quake is SUPER old, the HL engine is a massivly mod quake engine.
I think its time to move on to a new engine. If its in HL2, that would be a smart thing due to the HL name and popularity.
If its in Savage, then thats good also but the name isn't there.

HL2 is going to be one of the most popular games EVER, it is a wise thing to want to make the next generation on the game that is the next gen of the current game.

I can understand that NS already has its popularity and Retail would help this game alot!!!!! So the savage engine is a good Idea.

Chances are the next incarnation of NS won't be 'free'. Flay is a professional developer with a team of semi-professionals. Licensing the HL2 engine for retail would be incredibly costly. (probably a million dollars or so. That was ID's asking price for Quake). I'm just thinking ahead for fun :-)

Also, if Flay could make Half-Life do NS, then I'm sure he could make Silverback do smaller corridors. :-)

Stick with Half-Life, Valve support///retail might be best
