Will there be any in-game music?
Will there be any in-game music?

I know there will be MP3 stuff for it, but im not clear on that whole thing... will it be for voice comm or will you be able to play it from the game w/o voice comm and other players getting anoyed by it?

If you could answer my question then i'll know if i could play my gamin' MP3s for myself/others so then i can keep on rockin' and kickin' it.

/me plays heavy-metal as i rock n' roll on the aliens butts w/ ma team-mates when it's released (whenever that may be...)

Playing music over voice comm is an annoyingly ridiculous idea, and I'm glad I've never experienced it. There will be in-game music, yes. and if you want to replace the supplied tracks with some heavy metal tracks of your own, expect a wonderfully hard time hearing approaching enemies.

I think it is supposed to play in the background.

Just another thing for me to turn off.

Does the music play the whole game? And is there a diff set of music for each team?

no, the commander often warns his/her marines of impending danger... unless s/he is doing something else elsewhere.

Err, no, the commander can only see what marines see, for the millionth time, and by saying that your going agaisn't a Playtesters knowledge of the game, i think you should refrain from typing comments that you know nothing about. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but you people have to stop assuming you know the game.

"The commander can always see alien "blips" within a certain range of his soldiers. This means that if an alien (either cloaked, in the dark, or in any form) is standing close to a marine, behind him, the commander would see a "blip" there. The commander can't see the actual alien model, so he can't tell what type of alien he is, but he will see the blip. This isn't an upgrade or anything, this is always in effect, and it's an advantage of the commander. The idea here is to allow a good commander to always have more things to do, and offer ways to help out his team. In practice, it's damned hard to keep track of all your players, resources, and tech, so it doesn't feel unfair to the aliens."

"Every once in awhile, you'll be in a good hiding spot, and a marine will seem to know right where you are. That probably means you're up against a great commander..."

Maveric I would listen to the people that actually have played the game and know what they are talking about.

Collateral, assuming things again. A marine can ONLY see the blip, if the alien is in one marines FOV, not behind him. If an alien is behind a squard of marine, and not one is looking behind them, lunch meat!

Note: Comprox is actually wrong here. What CollateralDamage quoted above is correct. I think he's been playing too much as an alien... :)

Not really, Comprox. My post was a direct copy&paste quote of one of Flayra's posts, taken out of this thread.

I just left out Flayra's name to observe how the messenger's name affects the reception of the message.

Sneaky. I knew I had read that somewhere.

How did we go from Music to Motion Detectors?

Well, as far as I can tell when I command, the alien must in FRONT of the marine (vertical does not matter) forit to show up on the commander view. I have seen many times where marines are standing in a room, and a level 1 drops down 2 feet behind them, while I saw nothing until the marines started shooting madly.

/me shrugs, just going on personal experience

I read someone saying something about the commander seeing a "blip" on a screen. I don't know if the blip will always be there or if it'll happen for a few seconds indicating some kind of alien there, and/or whether it'll happen when an alien isn't there as well to throw reliability into the works :o

Though having said that, s'not a bad idea...

Well who knows, maybe they changed that and now he only sees what the marines see. Remember that little acronym they keep using? STC. Meaning they can change stuff around and make it completely different.
  • CollateralDamageCollateralDamage Join Date: 2002-07-15 Member: 949Members
STC is not an acronym. Damn, this acronymania is spreading like a disease.

And Flayra posted that only days ago, I somehow doubt such a fundamental thing changes so quickly.

Anyway, it was just a test to see who is allowed to "assume things" and who isn't. As you see in the older thread, not even the playtesters know all the game features.

NS has some really great music in the works... it's mostly designed to play subtly, in the background, with occasional dramatic crescendos. It works really well.

Anyway, the music is simply a collection of mp3s in the game folder... there's nothing online about it, and I suppose if you wanted to you could put different mp3s in (though I don't know why you'd want to).
