Half-life 2 And Steam

Or to be specific, Why I will buy Halo
So, I've been reading around the forums on the tragedy that is the official Steam release. I've also been reading how HL2 will use Steam for multiplayer. It all looks like rubbage, it sounds like it runs like rubbage and most important - is rubbage.

I don't know what Halo will have for PC multiplayer support, probably something like GameSpy but...the truth about it is that while Half-Life 2 is Half-Life 2, Halo will at least be something made (originally) by a company who doesn't want to short us. Ok, so maybe some of Halo's levels look like ctrl+c & ctrl+v for the textures...but it's still Halo. It's something I'll be able to play @ a LAN with a bunch of my friends. Now if you'll excuse me, Cortana is calling me, we gotta go find another Ring world with thousands year old technology. Mr. Freeman can have the present, I'm a Master Chief man.

..or the reason I'm buying Full Spectrum Warrior or Joint Operations.

Steam is cool, mind you. I like the whole buddy list system... even though mine doesn't work anymore

I dont call waiting years to let PC users play Halo something by a company who doesnt care about shorting its customers.

As for Steam issues, these have been brought up many times before. This is the Natural Selection Forum, not the Steam forum, and there are already topics which you can rant about how rubbage Steam is. Please use those instead.

Amusingly, Halo was originally planned as a simultaneous PC/Mac release, and was revealed for the first time at MacWorld (I believe; I know it was a mac event) by Steve Jobs himself. Then Microsoft bought Bungie and made Halo an X-box-exclusive title.

3 years later, its totally dated graphics are finally being ported to PC by the same company that did Opposing Force and Blue Shift... which, of course, are expansions for HL1. Ah, what a tangled web we weave.

    And as a post-lock sidenote:
Halo for PC will ship with multiplayer, but not co-operative play. In addition, it's a game ported by Gearbox software to the PC, and we all know Gearbox first got its main publicity by making Opposing Force with the help of...yes, Valve. In addition, Halo was first released on the XBox because Microsoft literally bought out Bungie software, the original makers of Halo who had originally showcased it at an E3 convention as being a computer game. That's right, the reason we got it later is so Microsoft could use Halo's greatness to sell more XBoxes. Now look at the history and future (aka planned goodies for the mod communities) of both games, and try to tell me that Valve is neglecting us PC gamers compared to Microsoft.
