Yes, been asked before...
Sorry, I'm on my way to class, so I was short on time, but could someone please provide some links to the best map program out there, and a good tutorial to an absolute n00b who doesn't have ALL the time in the world on his hands.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and if someone would perhaps be willing to be a mentor to me throughout my first map, that would be greatly appreciated...

Mapping.no is a very good one(I say this 'cause I'm in the crew there), but I'm afraid it's norwegian.. But Valve-erc has got good tutorials.

And which worldcraft editor should I use?

What else should I download with it? Compile packs or whatever etc etc?

    Thanks again.

I'll be happy to mentor you Xzilen.

Download Valve Hammer Editor 3.5 Beta from Valve-ERC.

Cagey's Compile Tools on this forum, and then AIM me: FX5800Ultra

Hmm, maybe this could be the start of another group project? Either way good luck with your mapping.

If you dont have all the time in the world then you probably shouldn't be mapping :O

But anyways, I'm on irc and I think you have my aim, i'm probably just slightly less newb than you when it comes to mapping but if youve got any questions throw em my way, maybe i've already dealt with them.

Thanks man, I think I have you added on my list already from our nice talks before =)

Yea, I hear mapping does take a lot of time, what I need to do is budget my time, make a schedule, etc etc

This site has great beginner tutorials. I learnt the basics of mapping for HL through this site about 5 years ago.

As for scheduling your time, i would suggest not. Rather, you should make it into a fun hobby, so that you don't feel the need to map when you really don't want to. If you put yourself on a schedule you may get sick of mapping.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't think about it that way, but now that I do, it makes sense.

And finally, in any case when you find a trouble about entities or "what does this thing means", use google and type the name you have trouble with, and you will soon target the 4, 5 , 6 more useful sites. But mapping correctly without time, hey !.. good luck

The Wavelength has some good tutorials as well. It's quite general again, but I learned the basics there. If you have a question, the forums there are a good source of information. The old tutorials were what I used, but they are putting up lots of new ones as well. (Some may be a bit more advanced.)

This is good for your basic half life, i used it and found it very easy plus it comes in easy to follow chapters.
