Download, run one of the bat files. Enjoy.

Puts the Geomod engine to shame.

Basically a Voxel is a method of creating 3D stuff, that predates polygons. It was meant to be the next big thing, but it never really took off.... But yeah, this thing is pretty cool.

I guess the 'aim' of the 'game' is to find the red upgrade thingy (Which then turns your gun into a cannon...)

    The destructability is great... just a shame the resolution of the landscape is so bad it's painful on the eyes ^^;

    It's no secret that I like stuff that breaks with a satisfying noise when shot at...

    HL 2 better include soda pop-machines <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I was chatting with Infinitum about voxels in IRC, and mentioned what my dad does with them; I figured I might as well share it with the rest of you.

    <a href='http://www.vitalimages.com' target='_blank'>Vital Images</a> does work with voxels to make 3D images from CT and MRI scans. Here's an example:

    <img src='http://support.vitalimages.com/images/month/img1_big.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    As you can see, the detail they require just can't be done with polygons.

    Voxels are cool. That's pretty impressive considering just 2 people made that engine and the maps.

    Edit: Just read through the website. One of the creators was Ken Silverman. He created the basis for the Duke Nukem 3D engine. Some interesting reading on his main page for all you nerds like me!

    argh, I wish they'd make the map smaller. unless you leave that game on for 4 days with the trigger down... how are you supposed to find anything?

    It'd be cool if there were at least physics (ie disconnected pieces falling & crashing)

    bah nvm i was under the impression that the blaster was hidden inside the rocks lol

    They do most of the time. It looks like its a rounding error bug. I've been able to seperate of huge pieces before and see them fall

    I cut away the middle of a huge slab, and it just hung there.
  • FinaFina Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3267Members
    I don't think they'll fall if they're over a certain size or mass. Then again, I've had single blocks just hang there.

    Oddly addictive for a tech demo.

    Anyone remember Ken's Labyrinth?

    Soooo fun. My brother knocked out the entire bottom of a level and everything just floated there.
