anyone else play it?
This is a shameless plug for this awesome board game I started playing about 2 weeks ago. I haven't played a board game in years mind you, so that this one didn't suck was a bit of a surprise. It's called Settlers of Catan, and basically the original (the only one I've played), is a non-combat, control the resources game. You have a totally random board every time because the hexagonal board peices (they each represent a resource) are randomly placed. Also, there are these little round peices that go on each board peice, and have a number on them. You place settlements and roads, connecting the settlements by roads, upgrading settlements to cities. You have to have certain resources to build (ex, a road cost one brick and one lumber to build). You get resources by having settlements or cities next to a resource with a number, and when that number gets rolled, you get a resource. Needless to say, 4s, 6s, and 8s are popular spots to build to. Settlements are worth 1 point, cities are worth 2 points, and you need 10 total points to win. There's a lot more to the game, and you can read about it everywhere online, and on their site. I'd suggest you try it out, or learn more about it. I'm addicted........

It's a fun game, just because it's simple doesn't make it any less fun.
...eh, im sorry, i dont know where im going with this
i see a price tag on the page, im not going to stick around
http://settlers.cs.northwestern.edu/ <- this is the site where I played it, it seems to be angry right now, I know it was up and down a lot, but you can see if it works for you, if you get it to work grab me on mirc and I'll game with you sometime.
Jane: actually, I've found that you get the most conflict added with the six-player expansion Cities and Knights is great though.
The one for the Playstation was kinda bland though.
When I play with my mom I always use the expansion pack to get a bigger board (I would reccomend getting the 5-6 player expansion, over a second set unless you want to have two copies of the game) I do this because it decreases conflict (and you obvioulsy get better placements too), and that keeps her happy. For best gaming (imo) I don't reccomend a bigger board and more points due to the lact of conflict and longness of the game, just buy Cites and Knights, you won't regret it, it's worth every penny. The AI are really stupid, but you can normally get real players to join if you ask in the main channel, if it's working.
Cities and Knigths (when played correctly ) is vengeful, complicated, and sometimes down right mean, it's just more fun and involved.
Seafarers is a VERY slow starting game so it typically takes much longer, imo it's not as fun.
For future reference make sure you label the pieces that are in your main base settlers (every hex -> ports too), you'll thank yourself later when you get expansions. Just a friendly tip. I put a "M" on my main settlers. Then if you keep the other expansions seperated from each other you won't need to label them, and you should be good to go.
