Kharaa Starting Res

Ediquitte (sp)
People **** res... BAD, like i am screaming at them bad. There is a difference between saving for higher lifeforms and WHORING res...

Most expirienced players like to see their teammates state what they are doing with thier res. You will see this time and time again on some of the better servers available.

"I am putting up a Chamber"
"I am saving for 2nd hive"
"I am saving for early onos/fade"
"I am gonna early lerk"

or later in the game:
"I am securing <Incert Hive/double res name>"
"I am building 3rd hive"
"I am making a sensory Network" (if they have sensory of course... people PLZ ask before placing sensory AT ALL... unless it is 3rd hive of course )

Yea those are all ok in my mind... however the rest of the team MUST adjust in order to compensate for that lost res. Nothing pisses me off more then watching the Scoreboard at the beginning while gestating and seeing Everyone skulk except me.

Everybody, it is safe to assume everyone is thinking your placing a starting Res node at the start of the round UNLESS YOU SAY OTHERWISE. It takes just a few seconds at the start... hell you can do it before the round starts while the count down timer goes. If you dont there WILL be times where you realise you dont even have first hive upgrades and marines are at level 2 weapons. It Cripples your game, and it leaves you WIDE open for a quick and painful marine victory. You will have hive 1 vanilla onos/fade wandering around trying to NOT DIE... Much less trying to kill marine stuff.

We can start a movement, a ritual almost... much like the tried and true tradition of the 1.04 Jetpack/HMG rush. At the beginning of EVERY ROUND, saying what your doing and when.

Yes you CAN go onos, You CAN go lerk, you CAN go fade... PLZ just say so, and make sure everyone gets turns doing so. Do your time as the fatty and build... drink some pop/soda/cola/coke while you hold down the use key building. Chill have fun, and remember it is a game, we are all here to have FUN!

Thnx for your time... happy hunting

I always place a RT if I am saving for onos/fade. It doesn't add that much wait time if the whole team does it. In fact the only time I wouldn't get an RT right away would be ifI am getting early chambers or saving for early hive.

I spend most games trapped as gorge until I feel I've set things up ok enough for me to go play silent killer with a fade =3

oh... and as a fade I crave defence chambers, not movement

My early game is either go gorge right away, drop res, skulk OR get about 5 res, gorge, drop res and a chamber, and I choose which to do based on how many people are currently gorge. Dropping a res that nobody will be around to defend is silly.

I generally avoid going perma-gorge on pubs, unless I know there are enough other competant fighters around. Even if I do, I try to get some res first, so I don't spend the first 10 minutes mostly just sitting on my bum. Save 60 res or so, gorge, drop hive, defend hive, do whatever I want after that. The bulk of the rts and first chambers should be placed by the fighters, because they'll more than make up for it with rfk (unlike a permanant gorge).

The point of this thread was to get MORE people doing this... if you already do it... explain to other people how it works and tell THEM to do it every time!

Personally I avoid going early gorge. I tend to run around as a vanilla skulk trying to get as many kills as I can until I hit about 80-90 res, at which point I run to the hive of my team's choice and put down a hive, res chamber, 2 OC and 1-2 upgrade chambers.

Ofcourse this varies from game to game. Sometimes everything else is already built so I only place a hive then evolve to fade. Sometimes the hive is already building so I put down 4 OCs and a heap of upgrade chambers before fading...

However that being said, I am very guilty of not announcing what I'm doing until I actually have all that res saved up... And it's caused me problems with grumpy server admins more than once:
ADMIN-ALIEN: Right anybody who goes early onos gets kicked
    NSPLAYER: I built 3 Rts!
    NSPLAYER (1): I built 4 Ocs!
NSPLAYER (2): I build a MC and I'm saving for the hive!
ADMIN-ALIEN: Revenge, why are you still a skulk? Didn't you hear me before?
REVENGE: I've got 73 res, I'll gorge later and build up a hive room
ADMIN-ALIEN: Bull! You were res whoring for Onos! Either you gorge now or you get kicked...
REVENGE: But I've just finished killing the marines trying to get our gorges at dbl res, and now I'm in the middle of killing these 3 marines running for our only hive! I'm the only skulk left on our team!
ADMIN-ALIEN: I don't care, go somewhere else and spend that res as a gorge...

Maybe if you used my idea of stating what your doing... you wouldnt have that little problem... would you?

What a nasty a$$ admin good thing the servers im a regular for are pretty cool. Was that just an exaggeration coz that is really not good adminning, although its his server he can do and say what he wants i spose.

Yea, it is all about making the atmosphere you want... he wants no res whoring, maybe to teach new players that it is NOT ok to do every single round. I say that is a good idea... teach some new players some good habits you know?

The only changes I made to the little story was compressing a lot of what I said into one line and generalising it. This actually did happen to me. It was ns_bast, I was playing on the YO clan server, and I really was the last skulk left, and I really did have to fight off the marines coming for the 3 gorges in dbl res, and after that they started trying to get to feedwater using the underground vent that skips dbl res.

The argument itself went on for quite a few minutes, and there were a good 6 or 7 people on our team all desperately trying to avoid being kicked... In the end I went and built up the ref hive before going fade and trying to kill a few marines... only to find that by the time I had gotten there everyone else had already been in attack mode for a while and the marines lost the game roughly 3 seconds after I arrived on the scene....

I was NOT impressed... Especially considering that in the game before that on ns_veil, that very same admin had gone commander and he tried a cooky reloc spot that didn't have any immediately noticeable tactical value. The vote to kick quickly started up, I was the only marine defending him and telling the rines to listen, and eventually the vote just died out. We then proceeded to absolutely steam roll the aliens, with the hives practically dying from fear the moment they glimpsed at a marine... It turned out to be one of the most intense and satisfying games on veil I've had so far...

And then he turns around and gives me all this crap in the very next round...

Thats the problem sometimes - you turn round and tell them what you plan to do, and why.... and then they turn round and roast you like a chicken.

TBH barring the early RT drop, there should be NO point in the game where everyone is gorge (unless you're pweening the marines so much that a gorge rush is the coup de grace).

ALWAYS DROP START RES, there is no excuse. Unless your droping chambers or saving for a hive, you drop that godam RT at the start. Not only does it give you res, it gives a little early game network for marine activity (YOUR RESOURCE TOWER IS UNDER ATTACK) Its a nice big blip (HEY HEY WERE MOVING TWORDS THIS HIVE! KTHX)

I almost always drop start res right away either because very few others are doing so, and I know we'll need the res, or because I don't want people whining at me for res-whoring. But sometimes, if enough people gorge early on, I'll stay as an offensive skulk to cover them, and save my res either for a higher life form or a hive later on.

Actually, a full team of gorges can work wonders providing they pair up.

It requires that they know how to gorge, and some of the ins and outs of placing OCs and all, but it can make life really nasty for marines until the larger evolutions start to show up. After all, nothing tears up a good marine rush like trying to run an OC gauntlet. And one gorge spitting while the other heal-sprays can make for a lot of kills.

(Key to OC placement, as far as I'm concerned.. never make an obvious road block . Just make it so that they can't get all the way to the destination without dying. It will often take two or three more OC's than a simple wall will, but it will not only last longer against marines, but will tend to either bring in more res, or cost the marines more res in continual medpack spam.)

Sometimes I save up for a hive, but then yet, I really want to go Onos and a big majority of the time I do end up going onos. Why? Well, not because I don't care for the team, but I've had one too many times where I decide to put the hive up instead of onos then a short while later, the marines are charging and attacking and that hive I put up goes down 'cause nobody would assist me in defending it. So I just go Onos instead and I help defend the hives. At least imo I do better going onos then putting up a hive..luck wise.

I dont know why, but Im starting to always go gorge. Maybe its a fatass fetish... or maybe my combat skills are greatly lacking. Either way, I prefer supporting an assault or building mad defenses than actually going up against marines.

I am almost always a gorge for the first part of the game (the first ten minutes or so). I know I can't do any good in combat with my computer running at 15 fps, so I get a couple rt's and some upgrade chambers. After that, if there is an open hive i will put it up. At that time I decide there isn't too much more for me to do as a gorge (since I don't like combat gorge), so I save for onos. That way I can actually get some kills and contribute to the team.
