It should be setup to compile with HL.EXE not NS.EXE. Also use the pointfile system for leaks by opening hammer up go to map then load pointfile.

1- look closely at everything. make sure that there's simple geometry surrounding complex geometry. IE: draw a M on a peice of paper and then draw a line under it from the left part of the M to the center, to the right part of the M. The valley that's formed is a big-risk leak just waiting to happen, so draw a square underneath the M, using the line as the top. This way if you duplicate the M and box and you off-set each of them slightly (using the box as referance. boxes touching), there will be no leak. (sorry i dont have a image to help you visualize... )

2- use the command line "-game ns" when compiling without the "s

Ok, for leaks, an important thing to know is that brush entities don't stop leaks. (You mostlikly already know that) As for using the point file, if you can't get your map to run in Half Life, download the beta of hammer 3.5 (you can find it here). Update to 3.5 then load your map, then load the point file. In 3.5 you will beable to follow the pointfile line inside the 3d viewing window for hammer. This is really helpful and I used it to find the leak in my map.

The .lin file is a bit easier to follow, and it also can be viewed in VHE 3.5's 3d view.

How do i make the pointfile work ?

In Hammer, open your map. Then go to Map => Load Pointfile. It will ask if you want to load the default pointfile; choose no. Then change the file open menu to look for .lin files, and find the one that has the same name as your map. Open it up, and follow the line in the 3d view. At some point, it will cross from the inside of the map to the outside- that's where the leak is.

How do i save a map as a .lin ?
• KageKage Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2016Members
The .lin file is created by the compile tools.

When bsp finds a leak it creates a pointfile in the same directory as your map. Go to map >> load pointfile >> and choose the .lin file of the same name as your map. As someone said hammer 3.5 beta draws the pointfile in the 3d view (it's basically a really long random looking line). Just follow the line to where it enters the level, or leaves it, depending on which end of the line you started : and there's the leak. There might be more than one leak so try fixing one, compiling, and loading the new pointfile etc, well thats what i do anyways .
