We were playing nancy as aliens and we were very prolific. We had every resource node but one. We had all the hives and every upgrade. Things were looking well except for one problem. The commander had given his marines several grenade launchers. The marines having no choice but to work as a team in order to survive had turned their marine start into a rock-hard nub of grenade spam and lmg cover fire.

The spam was eating skulks and lerks like popcorn and our redemption fades and onos couldn't hang around long enough to say hi. Even with resources heavily in our favor and having claimed 98% of the map, the tide was turning. The commander and his joes were hiding behind a deep welded turret farm and given enough time it was only inevitable that their single resource tower would eventually be able to stock them with an army of heavies.

Sure we had a lot of time to do something but our players were just mindlessly throwing themselves at the marines with no success. Some players started whining of imbalance, and others dropped. I was a gorge and had been spending my mid-game time capping missed RTs, blocking chokepoints with OCs, and making sure each hive had at least one MC and three DCs. Finally I went to the front line to make a few more DCs when one of our Onos started to harp.

"I can't even get in there long enough to do anything. It's hopeless."

I had to do something. These marines were beaten but somehow they were still going to win! I had to think fast!

I thought, *What is their weak point??? ...Their resources are trickling... That means if I can kill something, ANYTHING besides a light marine, they wont be able to bring it back.* I got an idea.

"Hey everybody", I said. "We need to wear these marines down. I need everybody that can to go onos, and then charge all at the same time. If we can get into the marine start and destroy just one turret, JUST ONE MEASELY TURRET, it will prove that we can eradicate these marines once and for all."

"But what about umbra?", someone said, "Your gonna need umbra to last long enough."

"Fine", I said, "A couple of you go lerk but just a couple, we need onos as our main force."

So in we went. I led the onos army and we proceeded to attack turrets. The marines were already starting to bring heavies and that slowed us down a lot but we still made progress.

"I got a turret!", some one yelled from the archiving hive.
"Me too!", said another in Data Core.
"That's great! Meet me again at reception and we will keep charging", I replied.
"I'm going in through the maintenance corridor so we don't all have to go in a line. We can spread their fire that way", someone offered.
"Great idea!", I said. "Be ready to go in on my say."

Suddenly there was a morale change in the alien force. We saw a light at the end of the tunnel and we were reaching for it. We charged over and over again until almost all the turrets were gone. There were still a few turrets but they were of no consequence. We had the destroyed all the sieges and had taken the final resource with a small lerk gorge task force. The marines were trapped in their catwalks.

"They are done", someone said.
"Ya it's over with now, we've basically won!", someone else replied.
"Ok, I need some skulks to charge up those catwalks and finish them off. Use Carapace and Celerity", I said.
"On it.", the skulks howled back and proceeded into the marine start.

The marines were honorable. They didn't f4 and fought to the very last man. After we dispatched the remaining spawning marines we came knocking on the commanders door. He spammed a mountain of health packs he had been saving for such a situation and exited the commchair madly welding a knife. Using some kind of hopping drunken monkey style he was able to surprise two careless skulks. But in the end he spent his final moments in the warm womb of an onos belly where he was left to ponder his past misdeeds. He was actually still alive in that belly when the game ended. It was a satisfying victory.

So what is the moral of the story? In boxing, boxers can't always go for the knockout punch so they punch the kidneys, and throw jabs over and over again to topple their foe. Weedle away weak spots where you can and wear your enemy down. Eventually you will be successful.

Err uh.. This is kinda embarrassing. I was pretty confident in my actions that I posted this morning but something happened this evening that gave me some doubts about my past enthusiasm...

It was the same situation except it was on ns_mineshaft. The marines were holed up in their marine start, massive turret farm, skulks and lerks being eaten like popcorn yadda yadda. Except this time we had given the marines too much time and we hadn't mobilized fast enough.

Not to mention that ns_mineshaft is built like a cardassian space station with millions of floor supports that have celerity aliens flying into walls and onos hopping every 3-4 meters.

The marines pulled out ALL THE STOPS. Their commander:
    - Gave EVERYONE a grenade launcher
    - Built 5 electrified turrets
    - had 2 arms labs which supplied full upgrades
    - and a row of 10 sieges behind the turret farm

They didn't even need ha because the grenade spam was constant. The marines had assigned two marines to each entryway and they spammed in shifts! The rest of the marines either welded or ramboed out of the marine start to feel for alien weak points. There were none of course because all the aliens were camping on the outskirts.

It was a stalemate and it was a pretty hopeless situation for both sides. The marines started taunting the aliens saying they should f4. Then the aliens claimed spamming a bannable offense. Then the marines claimed stacking a bannable offense (it was 13-11 but that fluctuated due to frustrated players) and it went back in forth with nasty insults about peoples mothers and ethnic backgrounds, until finally the commander had enough and recycled the ips.

So the aliens won... but not really. The marines gave up. So what is my point this time? I guess my point is that if you have all the resources on the map and all the hives and all the upgrades, you've basically won. Theres no way for the marines to win at that point. Its really up to you if you wanna try to finish them off or f4 to start a new game. Until the ns devs come up with some kind of alien nuke a la red alert, you will just have to be happy with that. Sorry guys

So wait. You could not acid rocket, you could not primal scream, nothing? That's frightening.

You couldn't get 10 carapaced onos and ran in all at once?

I've never seen a defense that good, but if it's as good as you say...

f4 =\ you allready won and the marines know it.

Marines are the turtlers in this game, there is no alien siege.
Best bet is 4 onos raming through the turret farms with umbra-clerity-regen, 2 fades regen-adren blinking into the back to snag the welders and nade spammers, and gorges cara-adren-cloak throwing constant web near ip's, and bile bombs. While lurks keep up a semi-constant primal scream.

But shoot.. this is an internet game.. like people would ever cordinate that well

Actually it will work if players vocalise their efforts. If everyone is playing quietly and their only comments are whining and cursing their deaths, then aliens are going to lose very badly.

I think aliens should get a special structure. I don't know what it would be called, but it would cost 100 res to build. Two minutes after it is built it blows up, doing a huge amount of damage, which decreases by distance. It could only be built if aliens have 3 built hives, and it could be destroyed by about 20 unupgraded lmg bullets. This structure would be expensive and easily destroyed, so it would be unreasonable to use while the marines are still really fighting, but it would help alliens finish off the marines when they have tons of res and all of the territory on the map.

Played a similar game recently. Marines attacked our starting hive (which had sensory) at a point when we had all three hives. They took out the hive, but we trashed their base, so they relocated to the captured hive.

It took two full hours to pry them loose. They had GLs, turrets, multiple elec TFs, and (eventually) multiple observatories (after losing two HMGs to silenced/cloaked skulks).

We ended up using the old build-the-hive-and-teleport-in trick (twice) to break them. Overall, not a fun game.

if it is possible to hit a turret with even a small amount of an acid rocket's splash damage without getting in the path of GLspam, it is well worth it. Not only will it wear the turret itself down (albeit slowly) but unlike bile bomb it will also kill marines who try to heal it.

Barring that, having everyone go fade and then blink into the base all at once can also work, especially if you have one or two onos charge in first to bear the brunt of the GLspam, and a lerk who comes in shortly afterwards to spray umbra

expanding on the idea... when the first Onos is in, do the turrets all focus on that one Onos? If so, the rest of the Aliens should go right behind enemy lines and start taking out the mushy interior - including marines and tech buildings. If two Onos could charge in and stay alive for 20-30 seconds with Umbra cover, that could be enough for Fades to blink in and deal enough damage. I'll have to test this out before I know it will work for sure.

Its the gl spam that stops that, though he is right the way to go is do whatever is nesisary ro blast the turits, they are by far the weakest structure, and there are a lot of em to hit, plus killing them clears the paths (turit farms are hard for ono dearist to move round in). Blinking in and focusing on turits helps as well, sense blink can get past gl spam well, and turits dont lock on to a blinker

Sarisel: Turrets target whatever is closest to them. If they are attacking one structure/alien and another one moves closer, they will switch targets.

are you sure? i know oc dont do this, they atack the first target they get till its no longer a targett (out of sight out of range, dead or any combination thereof). I always figured they used the same code for turrits. Ill try and test this and reply

Expanding on what scout said, lets say that u get 10 fades all with acid rocket. all ya have to do is walk-strafe until u c the turret but its not facing u (turrets use a revolving system which is visually apparent- means u can c it turning- if it cant c u it doesnt shoot u). after that stage just spam it with acid until it dies.

yep, acid rockets and/or xeno was gg in 1.x. No reason why they shouldn't be used to destroy that farm.

yeh as a commander I know well enough that if you dig in in ns_mineshaft its very hard if not impossible for the alliens to break trough if you turret farm.
This isnt just the base its also hives like BIO that have this.
I managed to hold BIO and base for a very very long time. Eventually I decided to focus on base and let em have BIO since the game wasnt going anywhere.
Ive held em off for another large time, even at some points we managed to break out capping 2 more rts, but were pushed back again. In the end after about 1 hr fighting the admin decided to force a mapchange oO
Turret farms r very anoying I only did it 1ce, and now I know well enough if you only farm enough the alliens cant break trough..
